1/1/13 ~ 225.4

Tuesday, January 01, 2013

The New Year is here. I weighed in at 225.4 today, after having cake last night. I took it into the pizzeria, and gave it to them, but had a small slice myself. Today starts 9 weeks till my next doctor visit.

I have decided on 2 alternating menus, averaging about 50 grams of carbs, and 10 servings of fruit/veggies. I am averaging 1750 calories, 50 g carbs - 15 g fiber, 115 g fat, and 132 g protein. Basically I cut down on my protein, and fat a bit, which dropped my calories. My carbs have gone up a bit.

Breakfast is 5 eggs, with 2 Tbsp. butter, and either a NS can of mushrooms, or a small bowl of NS peaches. That gives me more carbs with my breakfast.

Lunch is 9 ozs b/s chicken thighs, with 1 can NS green beans. This helps me get a bit more fiber, as well as more vegetables.

Dinner is 9 ozs b/s chicken thighs, with 1 can NS tomatoes, and 1/2 an onion.

My snacks are 1/2 cup macadamia nuts on the day I have mushrooms, or 3 ozs extra sharp cheddar cheese on the days I have peaches.

I plan on eating this way for 3 weeks, and if I am losing weight, find something else to add 10 grams of carbs to my menu. That gives me 3 weeks to find something. It is hard to find foods to get an extra 10 grams. Everything is either super heavy on carbs, or barely has any. I could add cottage cheese, but I already eat cheese, and it is high in sodium, and I am limiting myself to 1 fruit serving every other day, to stay away from being put back on diabetes meds. Beans are very high in carbs, but I could cut out something, and add them at 60 g a day. Any suggestions welcome.

I am going into the pizzeria today to help clean it up. My friend was very busy last night, and just let the crew go home. So I am going to help him clean up before they open the, fun, fun! Not sure if I should be flattered that he called me first, or if everyone else turned him

I did get my 90 minute walk done, and then went to do a bit of grocery shopping, and buy some plastic sheeting for my windows in my apartment. I have the heat at 85 degrees, but it is freezing by the windows. Hopefully I can get it so it is warmer . Being on blood thinners may be contributing to my cold feet, and hands.

Hopefully today is the start of a wonderful year for all of us.

Great you have a good plan to try. If it's affordable I would consider trying to get some of the veggies from frozen rather than canned to get more of the nutrients.
Best wishes for a very successful New Year. I'm glad that you and your brother are working toegether as a team. emoticon

    Happy New Year!

I was thinking of you the other day when I was making my dinner - chicken with mushrooms and artichokes, cooked in chicken broth/stock and white wine. I don't know the carb content of artichokes but the dish is pretty good, I can give you the recipe if you would like. The white wine is optional. I usually use oyster mushrooms but this time I made it with girolle (not sure if that is also the English word), but any kind of mushroom would work.

I enjoy your blogs. Good luck to you in the New Year. You're a good friend to help clean the pizzeria on New Years Day.

I read that broccoli, cauliflower, and spinach all have less than 5g of carbs per cup and also have less than 5g of sodium per serving. For what it's worth.

Happy New Year!

Working a pizzeria on New Years Eve must have been nuts! I used to work at my friend's shop back in the day and would dread those crazy busy nights, even though the tips were great. I HATED delivering and would have preferred to cook, but his cooks were really reliable and the drivers were not, so I always got stuck helping out with it.

On the other hand, I LOATHE having food on my hands, especially romano cheese under the fingernails. Blech!

Hope your new plan works - here's to a great new year for all of us! *waves to Russell's brother too*
