I spent NYE at the gym. In fact, I'm still there. Free wifi. I checked on my dad and had a brief heart stopping moment. There are certain clues that he's home and certain clues that he's away. It makes it sort of easy for me to drive by and have some idea of whether I can go in and b/s. Tonight, the clues were mixed. Rather than go rushing in (my instinct), I called my sister. He was over there. So I went home. Napped, then headed to the gym.
At 12:05, Dad called to wish me Happy New Year. Keep in mind, he's 90. Normally, he's snoozing by 10. Apparently, hanging with my sister until 9pm energized him some. So I talked to him while doing leg presses. He called my g/f, too. That freaked her out. She was working and couldn't answer the phone and he didn't leave a message. When I got out of the shower, I had 4 voice mails from her. Cracked me up.
Anyway, I spent about 90 minutes working out. Nothing intense. Just some cardio and a light lower body workout. Tomorrow, I'll be more cardio and a core work out. The next day, cardio and upper body. Then cardio and a light whole body work out. This will help me figure out the machines again, get used to working the body, and give me an idea of how to structure things for the future.
I've got to start working in base miles on the bike and walk/running outside as well. After a long period of inactivity, I've got a major project ahead of me. I need to sit down and come up with reasonable goals and benchmarks. Right now, my only one is to be able to run a 5K by the end of the month. Modest. Achievable. And something I need to do.
