Review of 2012 and Goals for 2013

Monday, December 31, 2012

My goals for 2012 were:

1) Lose 50 pounds. This seems realistic based on my current results
2) Be able to fit into a size 16, or smaller again.
3) Keep up with my food tracking daily. This seems to be crucial for me.
4) Exercise daily, even if it's only a brief amount. No excuses!
5) Read through my One Year Daily Bible and attend church as often as possible
6) Continue exceeding water drinking goals daily
7) Complete the Bucs blanket I began 2 years ago to give to my brother.
8) Complete my doggy cross stitch project
9) Read 75 books from my current favorite authors as well as classics and new authors
10) Keep my home clean and organized
11) Try a new healthy dinner recipe once a month
12) Get my planters weeded and kept weed free

And here are the results for 2012:

1) I did not lose 50 lbs, but I did lose 28 lbs. There was a 3 month period from September-November where I was traveling a lot, on vacations, and eating out way more than normal. I had actually gained some weight back during this period, but have since lost it all and made some progress. I am very proud of that and it gives me great hope that my new lifestyle of being more healthy and fit will stick for the long haul.

2) I can wear all of my size 16 clothing again. YAY! I was even able to wear 2 different size 14 dresses, but cannot do pants/jeans yet.

3) I have done a very good job of tracking my food. I rarely ever skip it and that's typically only days when I am not home all day and have no idea where to even begin in my tracking for parties and such.

4) I've been averaging 4-5 days a week of exercise. I do need to get back to 6-7 days a week so that I can make strong progress. I'm getting tired of losing weight and so I want to try to get to my goal weight quickly so I can relax a little and work on maintenance.

5) I didn't make it through my Bible. I made it through 3 months and I did skip going to church a few times just because I did not feel like getting out of bed early enough to go. So I need to work on this better.

6) This was an easy one. I drink 12+ glasses of water a day and never even have to think about it.

7) ACCOMPLISHED! I am so glad to have that thing done! I gave it to my brother for Christmas.

8) It took me much longer to finish the Bucs blanket so I did not get around to any other projects this year.

9) I ended up reading 150 books, doubled my goal. I can jog in place while reading my Nook. Win/Win! And I do a lot of audiobooks which I can also listen to while walking and exercising and doing other things.

10) I'd give myself a 70% on this one. I do need to de-clutter my closet and dresser to purge clothes that are too big and I need to re-organize the garage. Otherwise not too bad.

11) I did this for half of the year and then forgot about it.

12) I did get the weeding finished, didn't stay on top of it. So will need to do it again.

And now for my goals for 2013:

1) Lose the last 26 lbs. I would like to lose to reach my goal weight of 175 lbs.
2) Be able to wear a size 14 or smaller.
3) Keep up with my food tracking daily.
4) Exercise daily, even if it's only a brief amount. No excuses!
5) Read through my Message Pause/Rewind Daily Bible & attend church as often as possible
6) Continue exceeding water drinking goals daily
7) Make Christmas ornaments throughout year to give to family & friends
8) Complete my doggy cross stitch project
9) Read 100 books from my current favorite authors as well as classics and new authors
10) Keep my home clean and organized
11) Try a new healthy dinner recipe once a month
12) Get my planters weeded and kept weed free

I just read for pleasure. I enjoy mysteries, thrillers (medical, political, psychological), true crime, sci-fi, suspense, mild horror, conspiracies, some fantasy and occasionally just plain cute, sappy stories with happy endings. Not a fan of romance/love stories. About all that I can stand of that kind of book is the typical love interest that comes up while someone is solving a murder or running for their lives and even then I tend to skim over the mushy parts.

Some of my favorite authors are James Patterson, JD Robb, John Grisham, Ann Rule, Ted Dekker, Dean Koontz, John Saul, Robin Cook, David Baldacci, David Eddings, George R. R. Martin, Tess Gerritsen, Dennis Lehane, Jim Butcher, Sue Grafton, Janet Evanovich, Stephen King, Joel C. Rosenberg

Some of the books I read this year that I was surprised I liked were Little Women, Gone With the Wind, A Christmas Carole, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, To Kill a Mockingbird

I also won about 50 books from Goodreads giveaways that they do and liked all but about 3 of the books I won. I did stick with signing up for only the books from genres I tend to like and that sounded interesting to me so the odds were a bit stacked that I'd like them before I read them. I don't like to waste my time reading books I dislike.

Yes, I agree with Carrie. I'd love to know what all you're reading! In fact I'm a team leader for a Classics book club team. (In theory we love to discuss great literature, but the boards are a little quiet in practice). My first thought was that you might have been trying to do too much, I'd say you did pretty well this past year - so I'm fully confident in your goals this year! As for making church stick, you could try volunteering for a ministry like junior church, nursery, or Sunday school. Then you will feel compelled to be there, and soon it will become habit. I look forward to seeing what you do with 2013! Keep us posted, and good luck to you!

    Happy New Year!

You made great progress in 2012, which is the point. Goals are not meant to be easily achievable, they are continuous works. You will do just as great this year!

Thanks Pooks! Since I can read / listen to audiobooks and still remain active I am allowing myself to read more =) If I was just sitting or laying down I'd for sure have to cut back.

I was really hoping to hit ONEderland by the end of this year. I had a few days over the past 2 weeks where I was at 200.4-200.8 and I was so hopeful, but TOM came around and it didn't happen, but I will be able to start the year off with that celebration early on I'm sure!

Carrie... I am a member on Goodreads.com where I keep track of all the books I read. http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/

I love that you're including non-weight goals! Though ironically, after book blogging for so many years, I'm actually trying to read LESS. This year was the first year I managed to read less than 100 books in four years. I'm hoping to get less than 75 this year. :D

You are so close to ONEderland and I can't wait to celebrate with you when you get there!
