Swimming with the Sharks

I have been fortunate to have BLC team members who are kicking butt - 15, 40, 60, 100 pound losses
- and I have been stalking them to figure out their secrets! When I compare some of these "weight loss sharks," I noticed that they don't all subscribe to the same eating or exercise plans - proving that the magic doesn't come from a particular weight loss plan/book/exercise system. They do share some commonalities though: They are women of action, not excuses. They are tweakers: They are knowledgeable about nutrition and various diet plans, but they embrace what works best for them and individualize their plans. They are giving: they comment, share, participate on regular basis, and many take on admin responsibilities to boot. They are planners. They are committed. If you want to swim with the sharks, you have to get in the deep end and stay there. You can't periodically climb out and lay on the beach with a cocktail!
I'm tired of being an enthusiastic voyeur - I want to be one of the sharks! My good friend told me yesterday: "I've lost 50 pounds before. It is doable, but it sucks." I had to LOL at her honesty, because there are sucky things about being 100% committed to this goal. However, it sucks more to be constantly taking one step forward and two steps back - working toward a goal, but giving in to temptation more than working toward success. I'm ready to be an example to my family and friends, not with my words but with my actions. My mantra for 2013 may need to be: get comfortable with being uncomfortable. My feet are firmly mired in a lifestyle that supports me at this weight, and it is going to take more than wishful thinking to propel me, permanently, into something new.
Happy New Year Sparkfriends!
