2012: Year in Review

Monday, December 31, 2012

When I think about this past year, I think of all the ways that my life has changed. This time last year, I was preparing to start my pre-op diet so that I could get my RNY gastric bypass. I weighed 508 lbs and barely ever left my house. I hardly got up and moved, and I didn't do anything for myself like get water, food, etc.

Here it is one year later and my life has changed tremendously. I am over 200 lbs down. I get my own water, food, and I hardly ever stay at home. I walk around a lot. My confidence has risen so much and I am now considering looking for a job just to get out of the house.

A year ago, I never left my home except to go to church. Now, I go grocery shopping, walking, sporting events. I can drive my car which I couldn't do a year ago. I had to get some new clothes because my other clothes hung on me. I can put on my own shoes and socks, I wasn't able to a year ago.

I have gone one trips this year as well. I've been to Las Vegas and Reno and drove there on my own. I drove to Texas to visit my parents. I drove to Utah three times to pick up my son from college for visits. I also went to St. George, Utah to tour my daughter's college.

This year has been a wonderful one for me. I never realized how much a prisoner I was in my own 500 lb body until I started shedding those pounds and getting more in shape. I still have 70 lbs to go to my goal weight, but I know that I can do it.

I hope that 2013 is a good one for all of us.

It's inspiring to hear about all the positive changes you've made during the past year. And none of those changes are easy. But you said "yes" to a healthier you and had the courage to have surgery. In addition, you have provided support to others on this journey. Keep up the good work ~ you're worth it!!!
