December, Out with a Yawn

Monday, December 31, 2012

Why a yawn? Because today is yoga day and all that long stretching invokes in me some serious yawning! Seriously though, despite the bad things I've inflicted on my body these past few months, I'm feeling good now that I've let exercise back into my life full time. Though the scale doesn't show it, I'm feeling leaner, stronger, and less bloated.

Yesterday, I completed Week 1 of the 9 week program on the EA Sports Active 2 PS3 game. Sorry for the alphabet soup. I know, the title is a mouthful! I met my 10k step goal yesterday. It tends to elude me unless I make a concerted effort to walk around. Funny how that works.

I racked up 482 fitness minutes last week. That's quite an accomplishment for me. I've been tracking my weekly fitness minutes back to March 2011. I only have 11 weeks where I exceeded 400 minutes. I have lots of weeks of 300 something, but my average is a weak 248 minutes. It'll take a few more weeks exceeding 400 to bump up the average, but I'm all in!

I tinker and tinker with goals all the time, but I think I came up with my top three, plus a stretch goal.

1. Mindful Eating - 8 glasses of water; assess hunger before and after eating; eat slowly; don't multi-task at meal-time.
2. Stay in calorie range - This should be easier if I'm eating mindfully
3. 1200 fitness minutes - Based on my conversation above, maybe the goal should be 1600, but I'm cutting myself some slack here. 1200 is typically a tall order for me.
4. 10k steps a day - this is a challenging goal for me, especially on work days. But I'll put myself out there and go for it.

Here's the Week One fitness plan. I'll update to include the other activities I'll work in.

1/1/2013 EASA2
1/2/2013 EASA2
1/3/2013 Zumba
1/4/2013 LS WAH
1/5/2013 EASA2

You may note the weighted focus on fitness. I'm playing to my strength. Succeeding at fitness does give me pause when I have an urge to make bad food choices.

Have a great first week of the new year, everyone! I look forward to reading about your plans.

This sounds doable - and motivates me to make a plan. One month at a time, one day at a time. You can do this!
