Do or Don't make New Year's Resolutions?

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

Monday, December 31, 2012

Ah, that is the question I present to myself. To make or not to make my New Year's Resolutions.

Usually my initial line of thinking is, "Why? I won't keep it anyways." However this year I was thinking what a relief that I don't even have to think about it because I am already doing all the things that I need to do. So I just need to keep on keeping on. However, I did feel it would be beneficial to re-visit my goals, restructure my plans, look at where I need to fine tune, and decide what I need to do in order to accomplish my goals for 2013.

Yet here I sit, still thinking about it. Do I really need to make a New Year's Resolution? Shouldn't I make it official or something I guess? Well, let's just think about it for a moment. Resolution. Resolute. What does that even mean?

Freedictionary.com says it means:
1. The state or quality of being resolute; firm determination.
2. A resolving to do something.
3. A course of action determined or decided on.

Merriam-Webster says it means:
a: the act of analyzing a complex notion into simpler ones
b: the act of answering - solving
c: the act of determining

So, I guess when you look at it like that, that is exactly what I have done - I have reaffirmed my resolve for the New Year. I am of firm determination in doing everything I need to do in order to reach my goals. I have resolved to do so. I have decided on and I know my course of action necessary to reach said goals. I have been analyzing my bigger goal and have broken it down into smaller simpler mini-goals.

I know what I need to do. I know how I need to do it. I have all the tools necessary to get it done. And I am determined more than ever to reach my goals in 2013.

So in answer to my question, Yes, I guess I have made my New Year's Resolutions. A New Year, A New Me – 2013 LOOK OUT cuz here I come!!

I never make a new years resolution; after a while they become worthless and useless.

I had the same fight and decided that I wouldn't make resolutions for 2013. I would make goals that I can accomplish and even brought the family in on this with me.

Most of us don't look at the new year and resolutions this way. When we come down to it, each of us must find what works best by trial and error. When we find the "right" circumstances, those are the ones we need to be resolent about and incoporate into our goals and life journey plans. We actually call them many different names, resolutions being only one. For those of us who find a lot of success with Spark people, I believe this is a common factor. We have learned how to make, set, and accomplish goals in all forms, and have resolved to continue on the path for a long healthy life.
Thank you so much for an interesting blog! You are a good Spark Bud, and I am so proud to call you friend.

Great blog! For the most part, I haven't made the traditional resolutions in my past, but in essence, I enjoy being open to life-long learning and making choices that affirm the goals and aspirations I have made a priority in my life. I resolve to be open to that calling and hope 2013 will be a year filled with healthy living habits. Thanks for sharing such a great resource of good thinking! Hug, hug -- Evelyn
