Today is December 30, the 364th day of the year. It is also National Bicarbonate of Soda (Baking Soda) Day and the Festival of Enormous Changes at the Last Minute.
(The only explanation for this last one seems to be that it is for people who begin to enforce their New Year's Resolutions two days early.)
In Slovakia, it is celebrated as the Day of the Declaration of Slovakia as an Independent Ecclesiastic Province. (That is definitely a mouthful!) In the Philippines, it is Rizal Day.
The Church of Scientology celebrates Freedom Day today.
Today is the birthday of some very interesting people: Rudyard Kipling (1865), Bert Parks (1914) (I remember him as the host of Miss America.) , Jack Lord (1920) (Steve McGarrett in the original Hawaii-50), Bo Diddley (1928), Michael Nesmith (1942) (one of the Monkees), Davy Jones (1945) (another one of the Monkees and who died this year), Meredith Viera (1953) (current host of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and previous cohost of The View and the Today Show), Tracey Ullman(1959)(British comedienne), Tiger Woods (1975)(golfer).
