Well, i haven't blogged for a while on SP. But its not because I've disappeared. Basically, I've been focusing my SP writing energy on emailing with buddies rather than blogging. I enjoy the emails because its easier for me to be accountable to a real person rather than to a faceless group of people who may/may not be reading these blogs. Also, I feel that I can be more personal in a way that is difficult to be in a public blog. Plus, its fun to get to know other people, share their struggles, and reflect. Its one of the best aspects of the SP program.

So, why then, am I blogging again? Well, I think its nice to write out my program and reflect on how I have done. Its nearly the New Year, after all.

In terms of weight, 2012 has been a bust. I noticed that I was gaining weigh for a while but I wasn't able to focus enough to get back on SP in a serious way. In April, I tried again, and even was on a message board for a while, but I did not feel very comfortable with the discussion on the board. In fact, someone yelled at me for having a cappuccino and a scone. I felt so uncomfortable that I stopped. Between April and the end of November, I gained a lot more weight. I did not weigh myself because I was afraid of having to confront what was happening to my body, and what it meant about my lack of discipline and sense of self.

I finally weighed myself at the end of October and was shocked to see 160. I haven't seen that number for years and it scared me. I got back on. That first week was really tough. I tracked my calories and I wasn't anywhere near my range. Oddly enough, I lost 6 pounds a week after going on SP. I still don't understand why.

Since then, the changes have been tiny. i've been focusing on exercising more and being within range. The exercising has come much easier than the calorie counting. My goal is to work out 3 times a week: 1 spin and 2 weight bearing exercises. I enjoy spinning classes but I don't burn many calories because my lower body is quite strong. I occasionally have been doing a high energy aerobics class and I've also started going running. I'm running 5 K and my goal is to go farther if I can.

In terms of eating in my calorie range, this has been a serious challenge. I have a sweet tooth and I enjoy eating out. I have become more mindful of my eating, which is good. I've also switched from cappuccinos to americanos with milk on the side. Cappuccinos have about 150 calories while americanos have 2. Big difference. I've switched from whole milk to skim.

I'm trying to have more balanced meals for breakfast and lunch. I'm cooking more and I'm being more organized about how I eat. I am now doing big shops either once a week or once every 2 weeks, thinking ahead about the meals that I can make. DH and I have also decided to put a budget on our eating out which is the equivalent of 2 meals a week: 1 brunch and 1 dinner. This is good for both my budget and my waistline.

So these are changes up to now. Will post more later!
