My suggestion to everyone is GET A FLU SHOT if you have not already if you aren't allergic!!! Ok, that might have saved me but dr isn't sure! With DH spending several days in the hospital with pneumonia, I am sure that is where I became infected and we lost from Tues thru Fri before Christmas with him in there, then on Sunday I woke up and realized a Mack truck had run over me during the night and no one got it's license so I was just a Hit & Run victim and down for the count!!! I likely should have headed to Urgent Care immediately to get tamiflu but at that point not sure I could have stood up to get there! I was pretty much out of it till sometime on Wed after Christmas-the fever finally broke and I actually could hold my head up without feeling like it was being hit by ballbats. However, dear DH started coughing that evening and by Thursday he sounded like what I was pretty sure I expected pneumonia to sound like (he didn't have a single cough or rattle before). I talked to his dr on Thur and he hoped the antibiotic he was on would protect him and since he didn't have a fever, he didn't feel he needed to see him but if he developed a fever, I was to call him. Of course the fever came later on in the afternoon and my first call Fri morning was to his office. They got us in (after a little prodding on my part to talk to the doc) at 1 and by 2 he was back in the hospital!!
I have not been staying with him like I normally would as I am still not back to my usual energizer self yet. But was there Fri till they got him all settled in and nurse had asked all the questions, etc. Men don't seem to remember a thing!! I spent a couple of hours there twice on Sat and went early this morning so I could talk to his docs. I managed to talk to his pulmonary and the infectious disease docs. It is now confirmed he not only has pneumonia but also strain A of the influenza! He is going to be given tamiflu along with all the other meds he is receiving.
The plus side of this diagnosis is he is now in isolation and his roommate was whisked right out of there (he arrived at 3:30 am and was out by 8 am). He will now have a room all to himself. Everyone has to wear a mask when they come in. I asked if I should be wearing one, the infectious disease doc looked at me and said, didn't you give this to him???? Guess not!
So if any of you want to just totally lose a couple of weeks out of your life this is how it worked for me.
