An Affirmation for 2013

Sunday, December 30, 2012

I came across this encouraging poem I wanted to share with Sparkpeople and Spark friends.

Start Where You Stand
By Berton Braley

Start where you stand and never mind the past,
The past wonít help you in beginning new,
If you have left it all behind at last
Why, thatís enough, youíre done with it, youíre through;
This is another chapter in the book,
This is another race that you have planned,
Donít give the vanished days a backward look,
Start where you stand.

The world wonít care about your old defeats
If you can start anew and win success;
The future is your time, and time is fleet
And there is much of work and strain and stress;
Forget the buried woes and dead despairs,
Here is a brand-new trial right at hand,
The future is for him who does and dares,
Start where you stand.

Seems like a good mantra for the beginning of a new year. I know I can set myself up for defeat if I dwell on all I didn't accomplish in 2012. It is encouraging to know that we begin again, to renew, re-invent, and create a reality for ourself of which we will be proud.

Here are blessings for us all as we begin 2013. May we all start where we stand, and at the end of 2013, we will be living the future we, at the beginning of the year we had hoped to create.
