A&I December Challenge Week 4: Christmas Traditions

Saturday, December 29, 2012

We don't actually have very many Christmas traditions but we have a few. I am as much a Buddhist as a Christian so I don't tend to pay a huge amount of attention to the holidays, though I appreciate their spirit.

- On Christmas Eve we usually watch the early 50s film version of A Christmas Carol starring Alistair SIm.
- Our tree is the tallest one we can fit in our little car. Instead of a star we have a Siamese cat at the top, in honour of our departed cat Zorra and our new kitten Sushi.
- This year I made some handknit Christmas ornaments and I like this a lot, so I will probably make a few new ones every year.
- My daughter leaves milk and cookies for Santa as well as carrots for Rudolph on the lawn.
- On Boxing Day we usually get takeout Chinese.

That's about all I can think of for now. It's been fun reading everyone's traditions!

I love the idea of putting the cat at the top of the tree! The knitted ornaments sound really pretty. My son also put carrots out for Santa's reindeer, but I'm thinking maybe he should have the carrots! LOL

I love the traditions you do have. How sweet that your daughter leaves carrots for the reindeer. I would love to see the handknit ornaments you made. I will have to google that to see what I can find. Sounds like a fun idea.

I like the cat on top of your tree. Our pets that have passed away have all been cremated and we have their ashes in boxes or containers. We wrap up their containers / boxes and put them under the tree since they LOVED Christmas and presents. Maybe your daughter should leave some rice cakes for Santa next year since he needs to lose some weight and needs to be a good example to all of the children around the world. emoticon

Poor Santa! He needs to join Spark after all the treats he's had left out for him!
I like the cat on top of the tree. My brother and sister-in-law's cat (Junior) is in the tree! They finally put a hook in the ceiling and wired the tree so he can't take it down again.
