The Other Side Of Christmas

Saturday, December 29, 2012

Well, the big holiday is finished and my vacation time is near an end. I got out today for a family reunion and brunch. Later I spoke to my parents on the phone. Everyone is doing well.

It was fun to get caught up and hear the stories. Can't wait until the next time the family gets together for some great laughs and silly stories.

Do your family members entertain one another?

We live thousands of miles away from both of our families, but we stay in touch regularly via Facebook. I even started a private group for my (very large and very spread out) extended family to keep in contact. That way, everyone can still keep up with what each other is doing in real-time, but not feel locked in to difficult to arrange get-togethers.

My family is really small, but we treasure each other and try to get together as often as possible even though we are all far apart.

My family does get together and yes we tell stories of remembrances, especially the ones we can laugh at each other. My two sisters and I plan games for the rest of the family and there are usually lots of laughter connected to those because we plan it that way. Small gifts are purchased for them to select from when they win and we don't quit playing until everyone has won. The last game is always Bingo and young and old seem to like it. We have over 30 in the family and only if someone is sick do they miss our Christmas get together. L emoticon ove it!

Unfortunately my family is small and far away, but we did catch up over the phone. My life group (from church) has become my 2nd family. We always have a potluck get-to-gether before Christmas and this year we sang Christmas carols around the piano.

No, they don't. To my disappointment, my sister and brother and their grown children have shown no interest in seeing pictures of the relatives or of themselves when they were young or to hear stories of the relatives. Sad, isn't it, that they have such a lack of family togetherness? -- Lou

Most of what the family does is play cards, not much else
