Goal to work on

Saturday, December 29, 2012

I keep reading and hearing about the dangers of sitting too long. Then today on sparkpeople (somewhere) I read make it a goal not to sit more than 20 minutes at a time. (I would make obvious exceptions... family meal time, game time, church...) I LIKE this idea. I sit far too much. How many MORE calories would I burn if I kept a timer with me.. and set it for 20 min every time I sat down... or if I am watching a show to commit to getting up and moving, whether fitness or just DOING something during EVERY commercial??

So today, this is my goal.... no prolonged sitting. I also feel this is likely going to make me WAY more productive.. hopefully even in my seat work. And my housework should be better dealt with... and I WILL get in more fitness minutes.

I always hear that as you lose weight you will get more active and energetic... I may not be an athlete.. but I don't need to WAIT to move more. Moving more will help me LOSE more... even if I am not yet ready to kick up fitness to the next level.

YUP. Bye bye lazy sitting! Hello healthier more active ME.

Definitely true! Sitting for at least 10 hrs a day this last 6 months has left me a wreck! I discovered after a few months that it was making me feel like I was dying quickly. Especially when dh considers watching TV the evening entertainment besides!

Moving a lot more regularly plus getting my planned exercise is on my goal list for this year--starting now! And I have a lot of stuff around the house to get done. Gonna feel great with so much accomplished! :)

Rhonda! This is awesome!! What a "timely" blog!! (Hahaah)
Even when I'm feeling productive, I am often sitting.
Of course there are times when we just can't get up & move around, but I like your timer idea.
I set the timer on my watch for 8:00 when I make coffee in the office in the morning, so I won't forget to go get it... why can't I set it for 20, 30, or 60 minutes after that to remind myself to get up & move around at work? Of course there are times when I won't need the reminders (e.g., on heavy printing days), but other times I will. In fact, I'm gonna set my watch now! I'm home, working on photo projects, feeling very productive, but I've just realized that I've been sitting in my office chair for pretty darn near an hour (except for the time that I just now got up to get my watch!).
OK! It's set!! In 20 minutes, I'm gonna go down & up the stairs.
