Job application (s)

Friday, December 28, 2012

Well, I went to see my old boss and applied for my old job back but only as an "on call" personal care attendant at the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter. I would like to get part time at least, but it's all the have opening right now. I am going stir crazy and getting fatter and fatter sitting around here all day and all night.
I have been going to the "ticket to work" program which is a one stop shop for getting back in the work force, so maybe I will get a good job, hopefully as a case worker, where I can actually use my AA degree. I think I will be going to Residential and Transitional Recovery Homes and see if I can put in applications there. I think working 2 years at the homeless shelter should help.
I found out for most social work that you need more than just an AA degree. You need a Masters with a specialty in children's services, or substance abuse, etc. Maybe I should just go back to school! I'm getting kind of old to be considering another 2 or 3 years of school. By the time I graduate, I would be just the right age to retire.lol

Good morning, Suz! When my DH was a peer counselor at a college he had access to records as to how old people were that took courses. He looked into this after a kid 2 years out of high school said he was too old for college. He found people all ages who enjoyed learning. The oldest was an 108 year old taking poetry appreciation with her friend also over 100!

Let's just pray the Lord leads us just where we need to be for the best use of our talents. It may be something we've not even thought of!

Oh the sad reality of social work. You are correct, without a masters it's as about as good as a High School diploma. I know that I am fortunate and thank God everyday for my job (which after 12 years I can still say I love). If it ever goes away, I am so screwed. LOL
Additional schooling isn't all that bad of an idea; you are never too old. In fact, in my graduating class there was a 78 year old woman! I suspect there is something great in store for you!
