I forgot to take a "before"-picture but yesterday I organized a closet in my hall where I keep all sort of handy stuff. Tools I do have a garage where I can keep tools but mostly I want them quick and if I would have to go outside to get them, I would probably leave them lying around... the same with tape, strings, screws, hooks...

When I moved from my farm I did declutter a lot. Then I boarded with a friend for a year and much of my stuff was packed in boxes during that time. WHen I moved here I had some idea of organisation and tried to follow it... but today I have to admit that it is all a big mess and I often KNOW that I have something but have no idea where and there are too many places to look.

WHen I organised that closet I also made a list of what is in there - knowing tha some of the stuff deep in on the lower shelves will be forgotten until I need them and then I will not know where to look. I had the idea of going through all my storage areas and make lists of all of them - but then I would have the problem of looking through all lists... so the idea now is to make a register in alpabethical order of stuff I have - and a column for where it is stored... sounds a bit overorganisd maybe but as i am interested in all sorts of handicrafts I do have a lot of different stuff for this - pieces of cloth, strings, sparkling things, beads, yarn, tapes, hoop material etc. etc... the Idea of having a register and when I want a .... piece of textile I will not have to go through my boxes and closets to explore my storage of textile (have a lot of that...) to find the right one, because they will be organised.

The newly organised closet looks like this now:

..and before all the shelves were crowded and all the stuff was in heaps, falling out when I opened the door...

Great job. I have been trying to go through my spaces too. We moved into this house when I was in school, and my husband organized. I can't find anything in the areas I haven't reorganized. emoticon

Doesn't it feel terrific to have control over something in your life!. I love when I have the time to straighten something, declutter, or even wipe down the bathroom. I feel all is not lost.

emoticon It does make life go so much easier to be organized; I've been enjoying working in my newly organized garage so much this winter! Doing the DGK's science fair projects in there this week; was a gift wrap station last week. But when life gets hectic it is easy to let things slip. I'm hoping this new organization keeps that from happening. I hope the same for you! Great to go into a new year organized! emoticon

Oh! Oh! That looks MARVELOUS! Be proud of yourself. I wish one of my closets looked like that!
I got better at cleaning last year. Maybe in 2013 I will get around to organizing.
