My Clothes Horse Daughter Got Lots More at the Thrift Store

Thursday, December 27, 2012

I didn't do any after Christmas shopping yesterday but my daughter (who is very social and is NOT a homebody) seemed a little down so I took her to some thrift stores near our home. I really didn't want to get out because it was raining all day and cold on top of that, but you know how it is when you see a look on your child's face, so your mom instinct goes into motion and you do things you don't want to, LOL. emoticon

We looked at a lot of clothes at one particular thrift store because they had 50% off everything in the store (except for brand new items) and she ended up with quite a few jackets and shirts that she loves. I, of course, was thrilled that I only paid half price!!! emoticon

She is really turning into a clothes horse lately and even got lots of clothes for Christmas, but I suppose she wants to have even more items to choose from. Thrift shopping can be fun though because you can find things that not everyone in the world is wearing and you can get some great prices as well if you look hard enough. I tried to find myself a nice jean jacket (love them) but had no luck, but am very happy that my daughter found things she likes/liked. I guess because she is now a teenager she is more aware of how she looks and is really focusing on her clothes more than she ever has.

I did find myself a Rachael Ray cookbook that had no price on it for 8 cents!! emoticon I love a cookbook and cheap ones are even better! I also got some cool dishes for 30 cents each that I love so was thrilled with those items.

Today I may go to some after Christmas sales to find some Christmas wreaths (mine are VERY old) and see if there is anything that is a really good deal that I can't live without.

I need to start organizing the house again and hope to that starting next week as this week I want to have some free time to enjoy the time off we're having from school. I also need to get all the Christmas decorations down sometime, but my son wants me to keep them up until after the New Years so may wait on that.

You definitely have to look hard to find good deals at thrift stores (particularly clothes) but there are awesome buys for sure. I love second hand stuff especially when it's a good deal. It doesn't bother me a bit to get used clothing (not shoes), books, etc. as long as they aren't dirty or smelly.

I enjoy trips to thrift stores. you do have to look but there is a lot of variation and the prices are great. Exercise videos are also good to get at these stores. people constantly get rid of ones they never used. i have gotten new ones for about $2 or old classics (spandex anyone) for a low price.

I love cookbooks but try to be selective since I only have so much room in my tiny house. I feel like I'm wasting money if I buy a cookbook in the store or online, but did indulge in a Pioneer Woman cookbook that was on sale before Christmas because I love her recipes and her. I knew I would never find her book in a thrift store and that it would probably take years for that to happen.

I have found a lot of nice cookbooks that I have really wanted that way (thrift stores) and I'm always thrilled when I do.
