Christmas Eve brought a special, lively Mass filled with happy singing, festive decorations, and a beautiful manger to celebrate the birth of Jesus. My brother, Dave and his family picked me up and helped into church on my knee walker. It was great having someone to go to Mass with, especially since it was the Christmas Mass I had said in memory of Mom and Dad.
This Christmas Day was Dave’s turn to host our family celebration. I have such a fun family. I was greeted at the door by Dave, Barb, Kara, James, Lisa, John and Jamie wearing fake moustaches. Let me explain. The past 4 years I've been coming up with silly holiday games and prizes. I decided to give it up this year since I have such limited mobility due to my foot surgery. Besides, I was feeling the family may need a break from what I consider fun! Anyway, I did buy a card game called "The Moustache Game" where you hold up a card of a famous person’s moustache, and read clues to help others guess who it belongs to. I had emailed my family a week before telling them to google famous people who had a moustache ~ no other explanation. It took off from there!
We have an ‘ugly statue’ that has been circulating for over 20 years now! It made a surprise appearance again this year! I had run off a picture of my brother-in-law and nephew’s moustache wearing days in honor of them not being able to make it home from CA to MO for Christmas this year.
That's my niece, Lisa, sporting one of the fake moustaches she made posing with the ugly statue.
Then we popped open the traditional Christmas poppers and guess what the silly prize was in 2 of the 16 poppers? Fake moustaches! We all laughed so hard our cheeks were hurting!
That's my brother, Dave, and my niece Jamie sporting their new moustaches!
The Moustache game itself was hard, but the clues helped and I think someone was able to guess all but one ‘stache’.
Then we moved on to a Minute to Win It Game my niece Lisa prepared. We had to put a candy cane in our mouth, and had a minute to hook as many candy canes from one container and move them to another. We played boys against girls and the girls won! We each got a Panera gift card as our prize.
The entire day was a blessing, but I have to say I did have a favorite gift. You'll see why when you look at the next picture.
That's my niece, Katie, and me. She and I watched Crazy, Stupid Love featuring Ryan Gosling, the night she stayed over night with me after my surgery. We both agree that he is a hottie! So she made a Ryan Gosling gift tag for my gift! So funny! Her thoughtful gift was a gift certificate to Fleet Feet for a new pair of walking shoes after my foot heals!
I have been blessed with a fun and special family, can't you tell?
