I have severe scoliosis also the doctor wants to open me up in the front & in the back to put rods in. Every time I turn my body my sides hurt so bad he told me it is leaning inward & eventually can lean toward the lung. I refuse to get surgery because of 3 things. I seen too many infections ,too many reports that it has done nothing, or it has made the pain worse. My Doctor said yes this can & does happen. So i do not want it worse or an infection that could last forever.I shall keep my pain for now.Sometimes when you tell people your in pain all the time they look at you as if to say 'yeah right" that is when I could for a split second give them my pain so they know it hurts.I am so bad my husband many nights must sleep on the couch because I am all over the bed with pain.I get up in the middle of the night to do stretches to try & help it. When I first get up in the morning I am all bent over, it takes awhile to unbend. Take care & I know your pain
