Day after Christmas...

Wednesday, December 26, 2012

It was a good holiday for me. The best aprt was ahving my daughter wit me all day and most of the evening. I received one gift & it was a Black and Decker mounting hand mixer. I love it. Used it for the mashed potatoes we had at dinner. I got Ashley a keurig Coffee Machine like mine and she loved it. Plus a Verizon gift card as she is wanting an Iphone. We had the Traditional turkey dinner identical to thanksgiving. I ate healthy though and di not have gravy or corn and jsut 2 smallish bites of Potatoes. Too many carbs in my plate. (Even for a holiday) There was no dessert.

Saturday we will ahve roberts kids and his Mother coming for dinner and Christmas. His mom is 85 years old and a Diet soda freak. Yes freak. She is diabetic, has high blood pressure and dementia and alziemers.

Me: "Mom would you like a cup of coffee?"
Her: "Hell no! that coffee has way too much caffeine in it for me"

What in the world do you think soda has in it?
She's on insulin. You would think she can take some responsibility about her own health.
I am so patient with mom guess what I got her for Christmas? A huge box of diet pepsi. Just what she wants and I know she will love it.

On roberts son's birthday we all went out to breakfast at Biscuits. It was his choice. Half way through the meal she started in "This isn't Mcdonalds! I want to go to Mcdonalds" His son said "Grandma it's my birthday i want to finish my breakfast. Her: I want my Mcdonalds pepsi/coke.

I guess at that age you ahve to give em what they want.

Now We're planning that dinner....

It's funny how different Alzheimer's affects folks so differently.
The 98 yr old professor I care for is so sweet and grateful for every little thing that people do for him.

The story of Roberts mom made me chuckle(not in a disrectful way by no means) but because i can 100% relate. I am a caregiver and 2 of the people who live in the group home I work in have alzhimers so i totally understand her behavior, statements, habits etc. They can be a challenge for sure.

Have a great time with the 2nd celebration!

Sounds like a reasonable diner to me. I had my daughter for Christmas too. It made my day as well.

I loved this blog. My Mom is the same age and has dementia. Right now she thinks she has no clothes. Bless her heart! Even though the closets and drawers overflow. She has 25 short sleeve white tops that are semi turtlenecks. My project for this coming year with her is to organize her clothes by outfit in plastic garment bags. While she has all those white tops, she doesn't have enough black pants, etc. She gets irritable with me and I just look at her and say, "Mom, I'm trying to help you!" LOL my friend says when it's her time, just put her in a room with the "All Creatures Great and Small" book on endless loop (audio).

God Bless and you are doing awesome!
