A walk in the park

Limited options for exercise today. The gym's closed (open again tomorrow, I absolutely can't wait!) and public transport is scanty so getting to the outer reaches of London for a nice walk would be awkward. The weather's looking nice but the forecast is for rain. You'd think the sky would have run out but we just keep getting more and more.

I decide on a bus to Kensington High Street, and a walk through Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park.

Surprising how many people are about even at 10am. Quite a few joggers, including this one who was pushing a baby in a buggy!

We girls are good at multitasking and there's the proof.

I walk past the Albert Memorial and take a few pix including one of Rotten Row, which if you read Regency romances, you'll know is where posh people used to ride their horses. They still do.

Get to the lake. It looks very pretty and there are a lot of smug-looking geese saying to one another 'Safe again till next year!'

There's a statue I haven't seen before, apparently called Isis but I think it's an ibis to add to the confusion.

It's next to the Diana, Princess of Wales memorial fountain which is this doofer here.

I remember when it first opened, there was a big hoo-hah because the designer and the Powers that Be had not realised the first thing people were going to do on a hot day was paddle in it. That is exactly what everyone did, esp small children. The Powers that Be do try to stop people from walking in it because of the danger of slipping, but I'm not sure how successful they are.

Wasn't very tempting today, mind. Damn' cold.

You don't say!

In the distance I see the London Eye then realise it's not the London Eye because it's 1. too small 2. moving too fast and 3. in completely the wrong place. It's the ferris wheel in the winter fair, Winter Wonderland.

Oh, I'm so glad I'm on the wagon again - the number of calories you can consume here is staggering. Mulled wine, hot chocolate, lebkuchen, frikadellen, it just gets wurst and wurst. Last year I ate a frikadelle and it pestered me for the rest of the day.

Since I was early today it was quite quiet - by 3pm in the afternoon it's always heaving with people. I was tempted by the pirate ship and the helter skelter but I'm a bit too old.

Exit by the gates that were a 90th birthday present for the Queen Mother. I agree with those who think they are absolutely hideous. Completely OTT and they cost 1.5million.

If I had 1.5million to spend on a birthday present for someone, I can think of something better.

So that was my walk. This park, like most of the parks in London, belongs to the Crown, hence all the royal connections. If you have tea and a biscuit in the cafes, the brand is 'Duchy'. As in Prince Charles' company. I didn't partake - don't think he needs my money as much as I do!

I always enjoy "walking" with you. Thanks for taking me along; I tried to behave myself.
I do wonder what your temperatures are and if you have much wind.

Here in Kansas (USA), we have had some days such as earlier this week, with a windchill of too close to zero F. Of course if you tell us in Celsius, I'd need an interpreter.

As a teen, the fountains in Chicago in the downtown area always tempted us to sit and spring around and put our legs into the water also. We looked around for cops and none around, in our feet would go. Water in the summertime is such a draw.

Thank you for another wonder filled walk.
I agree... with you....
1. What are people thinking when they install water works that are supposed to be just for the eyes, but built too tempting to keep your feet out of, on a quite warm day....
2. Yes, somebody saw someone coming with the gate(s).. But I bet they do serve as quite the conversation piece.
3. and lastly, as to Bonnie Prince Charlie needing money.... wives can be rather expensive.
(although nothing compared to what it costs to maintain a husband)
-- that was supposed to be funny... probably not.
ah, well... alas and alack

What in the world is a frikadelle?? Why are they so horridly bad for you??
I agree...those gates are a bit much. Don't look like they'd stand up to a good wind. Be thankful it's rain...and not snow!

Love reading about your walks!
