Day 8 - I got through Christmas!

Tuesday, December 25, 2012

It's 9 PM on Christmas Day. All the preparations, all shopping, all the wrapping and toiling... And now it's over.

All those December parties and events... And now it's over.

I got through the holidays after restarting my journey on November 6th. Everyone was saying, "why don't you start after the holidays?" But that would only delay the start towards my good health journey. Why wait?

You see I am not on a diet. I am not trying to lose a few pounds to fit into a special dress or to go on vacation. I am here for the long haul. I am trying to make healthful choices and lose the excess pounds. The many excess pounds!

I got through it... the toughest period. All the parties, all the temptations, all the stress. Yes, I must say I am feeling good!

Today was a very special day... for all of the obvious reasons. We were hosting my family. It was a pretty awesome day. But today was special because I PLANNED to make certain choices with my food and exercise. I PLANNED to exercise. I squeezed in my 30 minutes of exercise right after we opened all the gifts. I was going to allow myself to eat certain things. I even PLANNED for dessert! I exercised great portion control and ate all of the normal traditional things. I had the ham, a bit of pasta, passed on the bread, loaded up on salad and vegetable sides and had that piece of pie!

Other than a great food day it was a pretty special Christmas. My kids are 9 and 10 and I have been wondering for weeks whether my kids still had the Santa magic in their hearts. Today they proved to me that they are still firm believers with all of the innocence and wonder they have always had. This warmed my heart!

Santa was good to them and Santa was good to me! emoticon I guess I've been a good girl this year!

I am now looking towards the New Year, a new chapter and a renewed commitment towards my journey to good health.

By the numbers since 11/6/12:

Exercise Streak - 8 Days
Tracking and within calorie limits - 49 days
Water consumption of 64 oz - 35 days

Here's to our good health!

I'm so proud of you!!! You inspire me to do as well this coming weekend, when I have two belated Christmas dinners to attend followed by a New Year's Eve celebration to host! These will be my big tests of willpower. If one of us can do it, why not the rest of us, right? Your spark spreads....

You are doing so well. I hope you're planning some non-food rewards for milestones along the way. I'm proud of you, too!
