Merry Christmas and happy holidays

Tuesday, December 25, 2012

I lead off with "Merry Christmas" because it happens to be the 25th!! I hope you're all having a wonderful holiday season! I've been seriously slacking on Spark for the last two months or so...things have been absolutely crazy at work and, to tell you the truth....I haven't really wanted to step on the scale. I *think* I'm still a little over 140, but it's too depressing to see that number and know I was 10 lbs lower at this time a year ago, so I'm not dealing with it yet!

I've actually been eating fairly well and have continued to exercise on a daily basis. I got a ton of cute new workout clothes and accessories for Christmas (a long-sleeve Nike running hoodie, a Flip Belt, a bra from Lululemon, and gloves with fingers that are compatible with smartphones) and can't wait to go for a run outside in them! I just know I need to be much more disciplined if I want to reach a goal weight.

Mental-health-wise, I definitely haven't been so great. I've been allowing myself to get consumed with work, which is completely unhealthy because it even ruins my off-time. My coworkers are really fantastic, as is my boss, and I love my job, I just need to find a way less, for lack of a better word. It's not OK to be constantly worrying, taking work home, and checking email from home. I need to learn to corral this to keep my anxiety in check, because it's been raging all over the place!

I took sewing classes in November and learned to use a sewing machine--I'm about 90% done with my first quilt (A Christmas quilt!) I've also been reading a lot on the train. I'm attempting to take a graduate-level abnormal psychology class next semester and use my tuition-reimbursement benefits I get through work, but it's still going to be expensive--I'm stirring around thoughts of going back to get a PhD, but know I need to get some work/life balance and perspective before trying such a thing.

So, life has been exciting and I hope it is with you, too!! I hope you're all having a fabulous holiday season!! :)

Welcome back! :) Don't let yourself get down about the possibility of being up on the scale; you know why you might be up and you know how to take control of it. You are more than just your size.

Man, work-life balance is so hard to manage! Good luck to finding out what works for you!

Also, congrats on the sewing! I know how to do the basics, but I've never tackled anything more than a shirt or pj pants. Post a pic of your quilt when you're done! :)

Sounds like you find plenty to keep you busy. I would love to get back into sewing but I have lack of space and time right now. Someday.....

    Have a great day!

You and I are very similiar. I constantaly take work home. I have a LOT going on and my husband says I'm married to my job and not he will be gone all next year so I don't think it is such a bad thing that I am so consumed with work. It will keep me distracted next year!!!

Besides...I'm trying to get that promotion!!

BUT I do think next year we need to ilve a little more and work a little less. lets make the next year OUR year to reach our goal weights, exercise a little more, and stress a little less. What do you say?
