Holiday Update #1

Sunday, December 23, 2012

Hey Sparkies!

Yesteday we didn't end up hitting the road until almost noon. By then we had eaten our usual full Southern weekend breakfast of turkey sausage, eggs, and grits. NOM. BF and I decided to open our presents early so we wouldn't have to cram them in the car. He got me so much cool stuff! Among other things, he got me an outfit to run my race in and I thought that was so incredibly sweet of him.

The trip was.... not so good health wise. I woke up early and got in a quick 15-minute treadmill session, but it wasn't enough to counter the sedantary hours of driving. For lunch we had coffee and gas station candy. For dinner we split a Little Caesars pizza. Needless to say, I felt like yuck when we finally made it home.

Today though, I'm turning it all around. I just finished a 6.5 mile run with my pup! It took me 75 minutes, including warm up, cool down, and dog poop breaks. I think it's pretty respectable, so it's lessened my nerves about the Resolution Run 10k. When my app announced that I had reached 6 miles and it was time to cool down, I felt like I could've kept going. My calves aren't screaming and my hips don't feel achy like my last long run so maybe my body is acclamating to this distance and I can add on in the near future.

Mom whipped up banana muffins from scratch for breakfast today, and has loads of healthy snack foods that has made up my lunch. Charleigh dog has been getting along just fine with the schnauzers, and even let one of them share our bed last night :)

One obstacle I forgot about... the water here is DISGUSTING. It's chalky and tastes like crap. If you fill up a bathtub, it'll look like weak tea. When I lived here I guess I'd gotten used to the taste, but now even out of a Brita it's still undrinkable. So I'll be living off of bottled water, which isn't really my style, but a girl's gotta stay hydrated. I will definitely not take the Georgia lake water for granted when I head back!

Sounds great! Except for the nasty water.... I used to live with nasty water. The first time I tasted the water at our then-new (now-current) apartment, I yelled for my husband. "YOU'VE GOTTA COME TASTE THIS!!!" After 6 years of dirt-water it tasted SWEET to me. hahahaha.

Don't worry too much about the road day! You'll always have more sedentary and junkier food days on vacation. You're doing great!

Happy Holidays!!

I'm so amazed you can run 6+ miles. I can't imagine that. I hope you don't mind, but I'm using you for inspiration.

Sounds like you are having a good trip so far. Yeah, road fair is always nasty. I know you are going to make up for it.

Congrats on your run and enjoy your holiday.
