A Chocolate Buffet!

Sunday, December 23, 2012

Yes, a chocolate buffet. Really. A couple of us took a friend out for his birthday...he wanted to go to Jazz Live at the Hyatt in N.O., to hear Anais St John sing and to sample the gourmet Chocoholics Buffet.

I planned for it, knowing I'd top my ranges, but trying to keep the rest of the day nice and low while concentrating on protein. Didn't do too shabby, either, as my inexpert figuring puts me at these values for today:

Calories: 1660 (my range is 1200-1550)
Fat: 93
Carbs: 140
Protein: 76
Sodium: 882

I'm willing to believe I might be another 100-200 higher in calories, as I have no true way to quantify the gourmet offerings. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach, though, because after the first 6 or 7 bits, I took 5 more, but could only manage to just taste each one. One of my friends oblingingly helped me clean my plate so as not to waste food (yeah, right! he's a sweets fiend!).

The gourmet-ness of the venue was a help to me, actually. I was originally planning to get a beer, a Bock of some sort, but they only offered wines and liqueurs, which I wasn't game for. Well...that left me a dilemma...go for a soda with all that carbonation & sugar (will not do diet sodas), or what? I chose a hot tea, which I drank black, unsweetened. It was both the perfect foil for the rich, decadent desserts, and nearly calorie free! (The beer would've been around 150 cal.) Oh, and my cup of tea was $5.25. Water and a tea bag. My friend's 3 oz martini was $12. (cough, cough, sputter, choke!) A 2oz glass of port would've been $14...one of the reasons I skipped all that.

So...this was yet another event in my busy month, and I feel very good about how it was managed. I actually feel good, physically, right now, too. I'm not over-full or hungry, I'm not in a sugar coma, no noticeable blood sugar spikes or drops, and I didn't waste any calories (or money!) on alcohol.

Now...vanity makes me say this - Tonight, I dressed up festively (and a bit saucily, if I do say so myself). As I walked through the hotel (lounge, ladies' room, car park, etc.) I caught enough glances from the opposite gender to put a smile (a smirk?) on my face. Also had a very nicely dressed lady stop me and rave over my gold bolero jacket that was a tremendous find on Clearance at DressBarn. (ladies, keep an eye on that store!)

So, anywho, I had a nice time tonight, enjoyed a chocolate buffet and didn't go berserk. THAT, my friends, is a true accomplishment!

Wow. Never heard of a chocolate buffet. That would definitely not be a good place for me to work!

What a wonderful day. My hubby would be in heaven. He loves chocolate. I enjoy, but am ok with just a little bit.

I had no idea there was such a thing as a chocolate buffet. My goodness! It sounds like you had a GREAT day all around, and you should be grinning from ear to ear from the glances you were getting! emoticon emoticon
