And yes, the small towns (more like neighborhoods in the city of Auckland) and just lovely. The architecture is beautiful, there are so many flowers and trees - and retaining walls are made of volcanic rock! (My dad is a geologist, I notice these strange things, LOL)

Great blog: such a pretty town, and lovely views from the volcano. I notice that the distance to Toronto was included on the compass!

You're meeting up with some very friendly and interesting people . . . not surprising, since you ARE a very interesting and friendly person yourself!!

What a cute little town! You two always have the coolest journey's! Sounds like your having an awesome time in New Zealand and meeting all kinds of neat ppl. Super jealous over here in the states. Eat some chocolate for me, some evil child chocolate.

Some of those volcanoes are merely dormant! Across the road from us is a truly extinct one - its activity formed most of Banks Peninsula and Lyttelton and Akaroa harbours. There is a road and a walk around the old craters. So glad you are enjoying the country and its people. Make sure you have an umbrella - rain forecast for Christmas Day emoticon
