I haven't been doing as much strength training lately. First I tweaked my knee - which got me into walking running to replace the leg workout and cardio workouts from P90X. So now my legs are good and I have tendonitis in my elbow that is totally crippling my right arm, so I can't do any of the upper body stuff. So I'm mostly all running/walking all the time. I think it is the universe making sure that I stick with the running. And I'm good with that. I miss the P90X, but I LOVE the running and am so happy that I can actually do it again!
I've been doing between 20 and 30 miles a week. I've made a goal to average 25 miles a week next year - to hit 1300 miles. But I know I need to get back to the strength training too. Looking at the week to figure out how to maximize running and mileage, but fit in the P90X stuff. Have to figure out how to get a good rest day in without putting me off track. It'll be easier when the sun comes back. Right now, I have to do both of my long days back to back because I like to do them on the lake trail, which I can't do in the dark - which starts around 5:00 p.m. right now. When it's light out longer, I'll be able to do my 6 mile day in the middle of the week. So now I'm thinking something like this:
M run 3 miles/abs
T walk 3 miles/arms and shoulders
W run 3 miles/abs
Th P90X Legs
F rest legs/chest and back/abs
S 10 miles (run 3-4 of it)
Su walk 6 miles
So yesterday was a pretty good day. I think I'm going through a hormonal thing that is making me crave sweet stuff, but mostly I'm handling it and sticking to the plan. And I went right home and did my 5K. I was going to see if I could run it again, but my legs indicated that that wasn't a good plan, so I walked it. We had Maura's niece and nephew staying over last night on their way back to NY and we all went out to Outback for dinner after I got done with my workout. I could have made better choices, and I had a little bit of the cheese fries (Don't scold. I already know and I'm talking like SIX!!), but I stayed away from the desert and didn't have the beer I really wanted. Helped that no one drank or I think I'd have tipped over the edge on that one.
Today the plan is a 3 mile run. We'll see how it goes. I really wish I had a slightly flatter place to run, but I know that once the hills get a little easier I'm really going to be able to run three miles anywhere. And tomorrow the plan is my 10 mile loop, planning to run 3-4 of it. Sunday will be walking 6 unless for some weird reason I just HAVE to run. And in all of that, I need to get my Christmas shopping done.
And I'm scheduled to be off for 16 days starting when I walk away from my desk today!!!! Will get my lists of 12s done (my goals for the year), and review last year, and putter around the house, and see friends.
It's been an overall really good year for me. Will reflect some more on that as we go.
