Like everyone else, busy times during the holidays. So this is just a quick update in case anyone was wondering about me and my where-abouts over the next few days, in case I am MIA on SP
We have family starting to arrive today, about mid-morning. The snow and black ice were a deterrent last night, so hopefully travel this morning will be a bit better.
We are having a family Christmas tomorrow evening, along with a baby shower. We do these dinners once a month anyways. This is for my siblings and their families. The baby shower is for my nephew and his wife. If everyone is here, we will have about 50 people, but usually it is only about 30-40.
Then my kids will stay all night, and we will have our Christmas on Sunday morning. They are booked to the max - Two other Christmases after that. That is the craziness that comes with family when you have in-laws, out-laws, etc. Sometimes you have 4 sets of parents to go visit when you get married. Your mom, your dad, his mom, his dad..... But that should get everyone back to their own homes for Christmas morning with their own little families, so they can make memories of their own little family traditions.
I will have a few still here before departing on Christmas morning. So it should be a relatively quiet restful Christmas. Lots of time in a quiet house to reflect on Christmases past, and probably cry... but I am very glad that my children have their own families and their own homes and starting their own traditions. As a parent, you know that this day is coming, but man it sure came fast. Seems like just the last Christmas I had sleepy-eyed children in footed sleepers squealing over Christmas Morning. okay okay. No mushy stuff now. I am sure my sister and her daughter will probably be here at some point that day also. That will liven things back up :)
So, I have been busy getting the house in order, guest rooms in order - things like clean sheets, guest towels, extra toiletries like body wash and loofahs.
The horses are situated for another day or so, then I will have to roll some more hay out, but should have plenty of helpers
I am doing the turkey for tomorrow. And I am not sure what all else yet. Everyone brings a dish to the family dinners but I don't always know for sure what everyone is bringing or how much (or how many will make it) so I usually over cook. But also I try to make sure I do the "good for you stuff". Like a big salad, roasted veggies, etc. I think that has become my signature dish - roasted veggies. Then for Sunday morning, I will do a gluten-friendly breakfast. I eat that way anyways, but one of my daughters has finally figured out that she has celiac.
Okay, well I guess I should get this day started. It is almost 5:30. House is quiet. Outside is quiet. Yesterday morning at this time, the wind and snow was something else. Crazy wind. I feed the birds right off my front porch, so I dont have to get out in it too much to get them feed. I knew bad weather was on it's way because the day before, the birds were feeding like crazy. They are usually better predictors than the weatherman :)
I hope everyone has a Fantastic Holiday!
