I Am a Runner - And I Am Possessed!!!!

Thursday, December 20, 2012

Before you read any further, remember that I am the person who didn't have the energy to get from the car to the couch after work, and I could barely muster the strength to pick a place, check the menu, and call in an order for delivery for dinner, much less shop and cook - just a year ago . . . .

Yesterday, I got a call at work a little after three from my dermatologist's office - saying that I was missing my appointment - I had forgotten all about it. She said they could fit me in a little later. I had been messaging with a friend online and it was in her neighborhood, so I asked if she wanted to get coffee after my appointment. She said yes, so I headed over, got to my appointment on time, and then met Allyson for coffee. We talked for over an hour!! It was pushing 6:00 when I left to go home. Probably just as well. If I had left Reston at 5:00 I would have gotten home at about the same time as leaving at 6:00.

I got home a little after 6:30 and got ready to run. I was supposed to take my friend Linda to pick up her car from the shop and I called to see if she wanted to go now or after my run. She said after, so I headed out. And I ran. From my front door, back to my front door!!! It was a little over a 5K loop and I ran the whole thing without stopping!!!! FORTY-SIX minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that was Week 9, Day 1 of Couch to 5K (only two more workouts to go before I'm officially done - but who's counting?). I was supposed to run for thirty minutes - which I did - and then some more. :-D

I walked for awhile more to cool down, went back to the house and headed over to pick up Linda. I dropped her off at her car and then went to pick up some groceries. THEN I went home and cleaned the bathrooms and the kitchen!

I went to sleep around 10 and I think I slept pretty hard, but I was up at 3:30. A.M. :-/ I wasn't just up (awake but exhausted), I was AWAKE. So I got up around 4:00 a.m. and spent a little over two hours sorting through the pile of stuff that had accumulated in my work room. And I got it pretty much all done! MIRACLE! That was a job that I thought would take me at least one whole day of my vacation. So checking it off the list and getting on to other stuff!!!

And now I'm at work and figure I'll be ready to pack it in by around 10:00 a.m. But I already "accomplished more before breakfast than most people will do all day . . . ."

If I can stay awake for it, I'll try to do another 5K tonight. Maybe just walking, maybe some running. Will just have to see how I feel. :-D

I remember that very first time I felt like I was a runner and an athlete. It's a great feeling.

When I leave for work in the morning and look at the clock in my car I always think, wow I've been up almost 2 hours and I ran 3 miles already today and it's not even 7 AM!

You're doing fabulous!

Amazing how the impossible becomes manageable and then almost easy when the pounds go away.

Make Today a Great Day!
