Rain stopped play

That's the announcement you get when cricket matches are rained off in summer. I mean 'summer', this is England after all. Today I was going to treat us all to another long walk, but when I looked out at the weather it was drizzle. The met office forecast said dry by lunchtime but by lunchtime I'd intended to be in the middle of nowhere on a footpath.

So, change of plan. I get the bus to the south coast, and get off at Long Rock near Marazion and walk along to Marazion, which is the village opposite St Michael's Mount. Boy, is it
misty.

I'm increasingly glad I didn't risk going for a walk. Walking in fog on a route you know well, you have to be careful but it's doable. Walking in fog on a route you haven't done for 20 years and which takes you across bogs . . . not such a good idea.

Get to Marazion marsh nature reserve and admire the bunnies. They have been left in peace for several generations these rabbits, so humans don't bother them too much.

This one even hopped closer. We stand there, eyeball to eyeball and I say 'Oo are you lookin' at?' The rabbit says nothing of course, it's a rabbit. It's me who looks away first. Trying not to feel humiliated, I cross the road and walk along a grassy bit above the sea. There's actually a flock of oystercatchers in the car park.

Hm. I know people who spend hours in leaking and freezing cold hides to see oystercatchers and these ones are just trotting across the car park. Walk along, avoiding the bunny warrens on the way. I don't want to put my foot in one and sprain my ankle, do it?

Ha ha.

Get to Marazion which is a very pretty village and has a couple of art galleries that I really like but which are closed this morning. Probably a good thing. I haven't got money to fritter at the moment and they are excellent places for frittering money in. Potter around and contemplate St Michael's Mount which . . . has disappeared. No kidding.

It's about 200 metres away and the smudge is all you can see of it.

I was going to go over to it and take photos for you but on the whole that doesn't look to be a winner today!

Move to plan C (I'm running out of plans here) and take a bus to Penzance, three miles away.

I have to go back there for the bus to St Ives, so I take a couple of photos there, and have a look in their branch of Seasalt and try on a coat I would like but it's 130 so I'll think about it. It is made of waterproof breathable fabric and is much cheaper than most coats like that but it is thickly lined and I think I want an unlined one or one I can unzip the lining from.

Hiking has taken over my life a bit. See some nice berets and decide to have a think about those.

Get the bus back to St Ives, and the bus I get is the one that goes round all the villages and there's not much to see of them as visibility is down to 100 metres or so. I am really glad I am not out on an exposed hilltop in this weather!

At St Ives, have a yummy fish chowder for lunch and take a walk round the shops and the old narrow streets. There are many fudge shops:

A chocolate shop or two

At least a dozen pasty shops (I haven't taken photos of all of these, my interests are more chocolate than pasty and please, pasty aficionados need not write in to dispute the authenticity of the pasties with reference to the positioning of the crimping, pattern of the crimping or absence of the knob on the end):

Shops owned by people with a sense of humour:

At least I think the above is intentionally funny. You never know.

Old narrow winding streets full of history.

Art galleries including Tate St Ives (second of the two):

Artistic associations of all kinds - there was a Newlyn School a St Ives School and a Penwith School so far as I know and this notice says 'Alfred Wallis lived here'

Where art is concerned, it's still going on. About one shop in three is an art gallery, I haven't take pix of them because a lot of them sell jewellery too and I don't want to be arrested. I drop in to one of them to ask if they can mend the silver brooch I bought there a couple of years ago and they can so I'm delighted as it's my favourite.

Visit Seasalt and buy the beret I was after. It's the pale turquoise colour of my Sparkpage, my favourite colour.

Get back to my room and inspect ankle.

You wouldn't call it beautiful, would you? Even if I'd shaved the hairy bits, it wouldn't have been pleasing to the eye. It doesn't hurt much today though.

Here's hoping for dry weather tomorrow. I'm going to chase gulls with my camera.

Watch out, gully!

YIKES take care of that ankle!! I have an issue where my ankles easily sprain. The Orthopedic / sports medicine doctors wanted to do surgery on BOTH ankles I have refused but I take extra care with it. Let it heal before you do more damage. @ least wear a strong supportive brace for a bit. (or better yet SEE a doctor and do what THEY tell you :) )

Wow, walking on the beach must have been pretty scary with that injured ankle. Keeping your ankle stable would have been very difficult. Hope it continues to improve and that you feel much better by Xmas. Thank you for the pictures.

I've just been catching up on your Cornwall blogs. Such beautiful scenery! Your ankle looks pretty painful. You must be keeping it well anesthetized as it doesn't seem to be slowing you down. Can't wait for the next installment.

My very, very favorite because of the rabbits! I love rabbits, I have them all over my house, inside and out. No living ones inside but we do have living and non living outdoors.

Your ankle looks TERRIBLE!!! I cannot believe you did all of that walking on it. I'm not sure you should be doing that. I think you should see a doctor about it.

I would really like to wk because you have such great places to go maybe when your in the city, it doesn't see like exercise?

Sorry about that ankle. If it makes you feel a tiny bit better, ( misery loves company ), I nicked off the edge of my pointer finger using a rotary cuter. It looks like a pizza cutter. But you cut fabric that is what you are suppose to do. I probably could of got a stitch. I used 2 band-aids. The extra skin fell off.

I cut around 1000 pieces for a kids ornament.

But it doesn't count as exercise....like your ankle: ))
