A CLARIFICATION ON MY BLOG ON THE KNEES

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

emoticon emoticon

Some have said they had two knees done at once and other said one at a time.
My doctor said ONE AT A TIME as it would be less risk. He is doing the most painful first.

And to top it all off I came home and found a note in my door saying they are going to work on my street and no one can park on it for three days. I'm not used to walking that far so someone loaned me a walker. I already parked my car in my space after finding who was already in it. A neighbor helped me find them and they moved it.
I did better with the borrowed walker even though the wind was blowing so hard I thought it would blow me away.

SO NOT TO WORRY One knee at a time but then I have to go through the process twice which will take a while. I plan to live 17 more years so want them to be well done.

Irene

Irene, You will be glad that you had your knees done and done one at a time. I had my left one done Aug.22, 2012. I am excited about having the right one replaced on March 13, 3013. Attitude is so important. I live alone and my daughter stayed with me the first 5 or 6 six nights. She was always close by when I showered but I was able to do that all by myself. The dr. wanted me up walking and doing exercises as much as possible. It was such a positive experience as I am sure yours will be. Therapy is very important. It was so surprising how fast the first 6 weeks went. Oh, one last thing. I feel so much better and have more energy than before. I didnt realize how tiring it was to try to function with bad knees. God bless you. Will pray for your surgery.

Irene, I cannot imagine both knees at once, that would really be too hard I think.

I am glad you are pushing forward to maintain your body so that you can go on with a good quality of life.

Just the thought of surgery really causes me to get high strung and over the top and emotional.

I for one don't like the thought of losing control over myself, my body and what is happening to me.

I went through ten pregnancies and got back on my feet as quickly as I could and refused to stay in bed for any length of time.

Just knowing you are going for an operation brings all these memories back to me.

I pray that your doctors are spirit led of truth and our Lord's grace and love surround you to keep you in perfect peace and all that the operation entails goes quickly and smoothly and that you heal and bounce back to health and strength faster then ever expected in the name of Jesus.

To your good health and long living and strong body being preserved by the love and grace of our Lord to be used for the body of Jesus to encourage all others in Him.

Glad you have a walker Irene, it will help with recovery too.
Costco sells a really nice one with a seat, so when you want to Stop and rest, you put the seat down, Lock the brakes, and sit.
    Absolutely One at a time.
    Hugs

emoticon emoticon I know you won't regret, "one at a time". My first one I had done 3 yrs. ago and now the other knee thinks it needs the same attention. It does. I am not too anxious to do it as long as dh has so many health issues. Otherwise, I would go for it now. God bless as you have your surgery. You will recover well and quickly because you have a good attitude. Hugs, Jane emoticon

Irene - i wrote some info on SP in my post re experiences other people had with knee ops. on the whole, all were successful.

i think those who followed dr.'s re exercise did better. some people are afraid to move and sit more after the op and that is wrong. if you can't go to a pool, walk in house using a walker or cane. walking poles good too as you have 2 for balance.

prayers with you always - JO emoticon

I think your doctor is so smart to do them one at a time. Easier for you to heal and that is the important thing.

SO glad you are walking thats GREAT!!!! I only need one done. know several people that got both done at once...one said she would do it again the others have vehemently said NO....one has to work harder while the other is healing.
but i think its personal preference!!

many dr's will only do one knee at a time while others will do both but it depends on many factors before they would even make that consideration......
do you have a surgical date as yet????
praying and wishing all goes well for you when you have your knee done!!!
    blessings and hugs..............lita

My surgeon will only do one knee at a time. Cousin had both knees done at same time and now thinks it was a mistake. My physicsal therapist expected me to do my exercises 3X a day. If I had both knees repaired at same time, I know I would not have been able to do that much in one day.

I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU, IRENE.

YES, DH WAS VERY GLAD HE HAD ONLY ONE KNEE DONE AT A TIME AS THE DOCTORS SUGGESTED . IT IS BEST FOR YOUR AFTER SURGERY MOBILITY FOR GETTING TO THE BATHROOM, ETC.

Irene, one knee at a time is good advice. My surgeon felt the same way. I know there are those that have done both at the same time - but honestly, why take the risk?

Having surgery twice isn't so bad.

Hope you continue to feel better.
