Ow, ow, ow.

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Okay, so I hurt myself today. I can't even say it was doing something productive, like working out.

I was walking to the car, while my husband opened the gate, so we could do a little Christmas shopping, then go for tea and to watch the Hobbit.

And I stepped just right, and rolled my bloody ankle.

It's okay, it hurts like the dickens, and is swollen, but it seems to be mild. I can put weight on it, though I've been limping a lot. It doesn't hurt as much now. I was able to walk to the fridge without limping.

This'll set back the running a bit. The good news, I tracked my food somewhat reluctantly after an unscheduled trip to KFC thanks to my injury (I'd planned to make enchiladas, but wasn't feeling up to standing in the kitchen.)

I skipped the fries, opted for original instead of my preferred extra crispy, and got green beans.

1700 calories for the day! woohoo! Well within my range. :) Even have 150 to spare, and that INCLUDES a coke at the theater!

Those take time to heal. But look at it this way, at least you didn't do like my wife did a few years back and break BOTH her bones above the ankle when she rolled hers.

I thought 'bloody' didn't exist as a curse in the States! Another illusion shattered.

I think we should start a SparkTeam for people with sprained ankles. 'Staggering Sparkers' - join up if you and your body are at odds. Like you, I was doing something innocent and unrisky when I did my ankle.

And didn't you just wish you could turn the clock back two minutes and avoid the place you did it on?

If it doesn't feel better in a day or two, you may want to get it checked out. Sprains feel like breaks and sometimes breaks feel like sprains. Don't forget to ice and warm. You may want to look into a brace for awhile too. Even after it's feeling better it'll be weak and prone to more problems for a few weeks. Either wrapping it or getting a simple brace will help keep it stable.

Because of my genetic joint condition (Ehlers Danlos) most of my joints dislocate easily, so I've messed up my ankles quite badly several times. And wearing a brace even after it's feeling better became very important - otherwise I'd mess up my ankle over and over and over again.
