WHAT I FEEL TO DO ABOUT MY KNEES

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

After a long time of having pain in both of my knees I knew I needed to do something about it so took the ball in my hands. My doctor said you are not ready for surgery but the way I walk and the pain I have, etc. told a different story.

So I went to an orphopedic surgeon my doctor recommended today. You asked me to let you know what the doctor said.

He definitely said I need both knees replaced and I really like the way he said he would take care of me.

I liked the him and people I talked to in the waiting room gave him a good recommendation. The 8th I go to see the anesthesiologist to see if I am able to have the surgery. The doctor said he had done knee surgery on people older than I including his own mother. He said it is according to our health.

I believe this is what God wants me to do and would appreciate your prayers. I don't know when I will have the surgery as I have to wait my turn.

Irene

God will be with you, Irene. I know you believe that.
I had my right knee replaced a over year ago. It was difficult at times but I went through the therapy and am totally pain free. What a difference it has made in my life!
My doctor wanted to wait until I was older but I said, "We never know how long we will live and my family is not long-lived; these may be my last active years and I want them! He immediately agreed; I received wonderful care and can do things now that I couldn't do even 5 or 6 years ago. I still can't scrub the kitchen floor on my knees -- but I don't miss that!

I had both knees replaced last year, right one in April, left one in Sept. I was 69 and had been disabled for over 12 years.
I would have had them done sooner but needed to lose some weight first.
I sailed through the operations and recover was fantastic.
Now i can do everything. Well not supposed to run, but I don't want to run at 71 any more anyway. Running was one of the reasons my knees gave out in the first place.
If you have a joint or part of your body that is failing, get it fixed. The doctors can do fantastic work. But you have to work at it too.
You will feel like a new person when you have knees that support you, are free from pain.
Take care, my best to you.

Thank you for the update Irene! If the next doctor gives the okay . . . go for it my friend! The surgery will relieve you of so much pain.
But . . . I had a friend who had both knees done at the same time and she told me she wouldn't advise that to anyone, far too hard and long to recover. One at a time might be best! But do listen to the doctor and follow his advice . . . he's the doctor!

Irene, so glad that you found someone who understands what you are going through. They can do so many wonderful things now even with the anesthesia. I understand the pain I had both knees done at the same time and it was so wonderful to be rid of that pain. Prayers and thoughts are with you.

I pray for wisdom for you, the anesthesiologist and your ortho surgeon. Most people I've met are very happy that they got their knees replaced. Getting my left knee replaced is the only way that I was able to walk after having broken my knee/leg. I was up walking the next day!

You will have a new lease on life with the joint replacements. I went from barely being able to walk to being able to enjoy hiking and my high intensity cardio workouts with my artificial knees. So glad you were proactive and sought out a specialist's opinion. Sounds like you found a gem of a surgeon!! I am sure the anesthesiologist will be suitably impressed with your healthy lifestyle! My thoughts are with you Irene.

hi Irene, I wish you the very best as you prepare for surgery. I'm still trying to get my hips squared away and need my shoulders to be replaced and then it will be time for my knees as they are starting to squawk now too....These mortal bodies with their pains and breakable parts are really just the pits. I can't wait to get my new body, Ill tell you that's for sure. You're in my prayers, God bless.
