Getting Fit

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Last night I got together with some coworkers to work out. It really does make a difference if you have people with you to motivate, inspire, and instruct. I can make myself do cardio (for the most part, anyway), but I have a lot of trouble motivating myself to do toning and strength-training. We ended up cross-training using (what I call) the playing card method. Each suit has a series of exercises (example, hearts are core, clubs are upper body, etc.) and each suit has a few exercises to rotate through. The number on the card indicates how many reps you do. You go through the entire deck this way. In between card draws, you do a few jumping jacks/hops/etc. to keep the body warm and burning extra calories. It's a pretty fun approach to strength training. In addition, I did 12 minutes on the treadmill and 12 minutes on the elliptical.

I've been feeling very motivated to get fit lately...not just lose weight and inches, but really get fit. I'd like to develop my endurance, strength, and flexibility. Being self-reliant has always been super important to me and part of that is whole-body wellness and fitness. I want my mind AND body to be sharp and ready for anything! Losing weight is only the beginning for me. It's reason number 1, to be honest, but it's not everything to me.

Hope everyone is having a great day!
