December Goal/Commitment - CHECK!! Done!

If I can air my dirty laundry (a/k/a my occasional propensity to put something I really want to do off forever) in a public SparkPeople blog, then I find it only fitting that I can also air (a/k/a share) my success!!!

I did it. I not only met, but exceeded, my December goal. I might also add that I did it well in advance of my goal of no later than midnight 12/31/2012. My FitBit account is set up, my FitBit is charged, and my FitBit account is now synced with SparkPeople. I even got 500 Spark points for doing that - sweet!!!)

Furthermore, I've done a little testing - and I DO mean little. I stuck the device in my pocket and walked through the house counting my steps - 80 steps. My FitBit read it at 78 steps. I'll take it as that's pretty darn close to accurate!!

I've had great difficulty in the past with pedometers. I've even had my personal trainers at work set up the stride for me on the pedometers; they've watched me using it; and they also personally witnessed THREE pedometers in a row being terribly inaccurate for me. I'm very hopeful here after the FitBit test!!

With this said, the pedometer function on the FitBit is not what peaks the most interest for me with this handy-dandy (so far) little device. I am looking forward to tracking my sleep patterns. This thing tells me what time I went to bed (after the push the button on it), how long it took me to get to sleep (usually nanoseconds), how many times my sleep was interrupted, total sleep time and how long I was in bed. Truly sweet.

I'm also interested in what this little puppy tells me about calorie burn. I won't be able to compare it to SP because the FitBit syncs the calorie expenditure with SparkPeople and if you add it manually to the Fitness Tracker, you're overestimating your calorie burn.

Testing the sleep function will wait until later in the week. The battery charges quickly but in the beginning, it doesn't hold the charge well. I was warned about this by friends. It takes a few days. Then, it will hold battery charge for a minimum of 3 days and up to 5-7 days.

So much more to be revealed ... I'm hyped and I intentionally met my goal early so I can use this as one tool to help me continue to stay healthy through the holidays.

Wooo Hoooo!!!! Score one big one for me ...

    Booh~YA...super duper proud of you sista! Maybe we can start a little Fitbit step competition. I had mine smokin from all the steps I took in NYC recently. See my blog if you haven't already checked it out. That baby was HUMMING! Record step count to date is 12,948 steps with 11 floors climbed...no that one I'm wondering about...but maybe with all the steps and escalators at the airport. Although you can hardly call escalators fair game.

How does it calculate this...everytime you go airborne? Does that mean elevators too? Serious question we have on that one. Anyhow, I'll take the eleven floors on my badge gadget. AND the 2383 calories burned..although I'm sure I ate and drank them back two times over.

AND I'm most pleased with me~self and my 967 activity level. When I saw 1000 as your target goal I thought...what the? But now I know it's attainable.

We are doing great we two...stay with the program sista! We shall encourage and pester each other to get this weight OFF for good! emoticon emoticon
