Yay it's Christmas! Oh wait, I'm a musician....

Monday, December 17, 2012

I tried hard to keep Advent this year. But it just doesn't seem possible with all of the running around ||: to this concert to that rehearsal to this other thing :|| (Music Theory Class! ":||" is musical notation for repeat. "||: ... :||" means that you get to ":||" you repeat starting at the "||:". There will not be a quiz at the end. No worries).

Thankfully, I had my last two concerts yesterday: cantata at my parent's church and Lessons and Carols at St. John's Episcopal in Hampton.

St. John's is gorgeous! It's a colonial era church and it's just beautiful with the dark wood and the intricate stain glass. And the pipe organ! Oh! I love the pipe organ. I was seriously trying to not cry at the rehearsal on Saturday. It's been too long since I've had the opportunity to just enjoy such a beautiful instrument.

Anyhoo!!!

The reason I bring all of this up is because I was reading the "Is your diet keeping you fat" dailySpark thing and I couldn't read it it was so incriminating: You work hard all week and screw up on the weekends (not in so many words, but yeah).

It's really hard this time of year! It seems like after every concert there is a reception and it's hard to track receptions! I don't know what this is or what's in it, all I know is that it is good. I'm not gorging myself, I take a little of what I want and that's it. I also try (and sometimes fail) to stay away from the desserts.

Overall, I think I do okay with receptions, but it's really hard to tell. They tend to be pot luck, so things are homemade and you don't know if someone used heavy cream or real butter or whatever in their offering. And, quite frankly, it would probably be rude to ask.

And exercising after a concert (especially a double header like I had yesterday)? HAH! Concert singing IS an exercise! It's exhausting! You stand straight for an hour or so in funny clothes, you have to breathe a certain way, hold your arms up and out to read your music as well as the mental exhaustion. I had to skip out early from the St. John's reception because I was falling asleep on my feet and I had a 30 minute drive home in the rain. I was 2am tired at 5:30pm!
All of this to say: I'm kind of nervous about my weigh in today. emoticon

So, here's the question, are you nervous about the weigh in because of what it might portend for your Christmas wish (and I'm severely overreaching and overanalyzing your previous blog post to make a point here), or because you're already bemoaning not losing weight at as fast a pace as you were two blog posts ago?

Yeah, I'm being slightly ludicrous, but your nervousness might not be warranted. The weight loss path isn't a linear one, and it might contain an uptick or two here and there. Overall, it seems like you're on a fantastically negative (in a good way!) trend line, approaching your "someday" goal months and months before you thought it might happen.
