I brought this cradle back with me from Pa. two years ago when Mom died at age 84. It was my Mom's doll cradle that my Grandpa made for her when she was about 4 or 5 years old. It has the original paint on it. I don't want to repaint it until it's absolutely necessary. Mom bought the baby doll and put her in it. The cradle was on Mom's fireplace hearth and so I felt our hearth was the place for it to be as well. I added the green and red "blankie" (napkin) as the doll's blankie. She wanted to be in the Christmas spirit too. So, I just wanted to share that memory with you.

I LOVE the cradle and the memories that it holds. How lucky you are to have it. I agree that I would not want to paint it.

    emoticon Memories...oh how precious!!!
We used to give all the baby dolls a bath and dressed in fresh clothes and lined up on the back of the sofa on Christmas eve. I got new doll clothes that my Mom had made for years and when I was able to sew, I made them for my little sister and made many for our two children...yes, our son had a baby doll and was encouraged to practice being a Daddy in their play time...Daughter of course had many and went through the American Girl stage when I looked at pictures and made dresses to match the store bought ones for our daughter.

Dolls are part of my Christmas memories for sure!! Thanks for the reminder...need to find more pictures like this for my collection.

PERFECT! What a precious family heirloom!

I would tuck some straw (artificial like a faux Hawaiian skirt) because I am often over the top!

I see that symbol as a manger scene.

How special is that to have something you can see and feel that belonged to your mom and made by your grandfather. i hope you have a family member who will love and preserve the memory after you care gone. The old world craftsmanship is very rare today.
I wish you a wonderful week as we both journey to better health.
May you find success in all you do.

OMG! I have one very similar to that--a tad smaller. It was my grandmother's doll cradle. And I still have it, too! In my bedroom with my first doll! Thanks for the memory!
