Addition to the Family

Sunday, December 16, 2012

In my previous blog I told about the loss of our Great Dane. Since his passing, our other dog and my wonderful Cuchi-Cuchi seemed totally out of it. So, I started looking online for a reputable breeder that had puppies available real soon. My wife has always liked Australian Shepherds so, that's what I focused on. As luck would have it, there was a breeder in Houston with 3 available male puppies. I talked to her and she answered correctly all of the questions asked. I started looking at the 3 male puppies available and couldn't decide. Since this nice lady and I seemed to hit it off, I asked her which one she would have picked if the roles were reversed. She told me and I focused on that one. He sure was a cutie, especially his dual-colored eyes (blue and brown). We decided on that puppy and she said that by chance, there was a lady coming by her grooming shop that was from San Antonio and would be returning home on Saturday. We made the deal and on my way to pick up the puppy, I stopped at my favorite doggie shop and bought a ton of stuff for the new doggie (brush for hair, toys, snacks, shampoo, ear lotion, nail cutter, collar, etc.). I even signed us up for Kindergarten 1 classes starting 1/2/2013. That done, I went to pick up the puppy. What a beautiful little guy. When I got home, both my wife and son were beside themselves. They just loved the puppy. Now, the work will begin. He'll be exercised and walked every hour and a half. This will allow him to poop, pee, and expend some energy so that he can lay down and take a 20 to 30-minute nap. This will go on for several weeks. In between, I'll begin his training so that when Kindergarten begins, he'll be ahead of the class and prime candidate for Honor Graduate (LOL) . Last night was his first with us. We put him in his crate and other than a 2-minute cry, he slept until 5:45 this morning. So, our other dog and my wife are totally happy, as Christmas for them, arrived early. HOOAAA!!

One of my favorite quotes is, "Whoever said money can't buy happiness forgot about puppies!"

Congratulations on your new family addition.

Oh, that is so awesome! We knew that we wanted to get another dog after we had to put our dog down in July of last year, but we waited until we were ready. We adopted a rescue dog who has a few issues, but she has become such a part of our family. In jan it will be one year since she joined our family. I am so happy that you were able to find a new dog to welcome into your home. There is just something about a dog that is so hard to live without. I hope your puppy will train easily, I have heard that breed is extremely smart so with lot's of encouragement, I am sure he will!
Good luck. emoticon
