The Jogging Stroller's FIRST race w/a BIG Surprise (PICS!)
Sunday, December 16, 2012
Yesterday, I ran in the Jog'r Egg Nog'r 5K. This race will be remembered for a long time because it is the first race I have ever done with my little running buddy and his jogging stroller. I was a little apprehensive before the race began because I am used to being at races with my husband and he was unable to be there so it was just AMC and I (ARC had stayed the night with her friend).
When we got to the race, I made sure AMC was bundled up and had his snacks and water cup. We walked from the car to the starting area (up a really steep hill might I add!) and waited for the race to start.
My plan going into the race was to take it easy and listen to my body since I had done the half marathon the weekend before. Once the gun went off, we were on our way! I started out at a slow jog (or so I thought) but when I got to the first mile marker I discovered that I had run it in about 13 minutes!...WHAT!...That can't be!...I don't run that fast with the stroller!...Were some thoughts going through my head. I tried not to focus on it and continued on to the second mile marker. I had to do some walking during that mile but I still ended up hitting the marker in before 30 minutes was up! Because of this, I made a goal then and there to finish in less than 45 minutes so I continued pushing towards the end and came across the finish line in 43 minutes! WOW! I could not believe myself. In fact, I am still in a little bit of shock because I was not even sure I could run a 5k at that pace without the stroller so to do it with the stroller (and 24 pound baby) is HUGE!
Even though my husband was not there, it was a lot of fun having AMC out there on the course with me. I definitely see him participating in future races!

See! Under 45! Mine is a little off because I started it early and ended it a little late:
Pretty sure AMC's favorite part was the postrace banana:
