There's a place that I often visit. I go to this Rock in all seasons.
In the winter, it is a place of refuge and quiet. Few people climb in winter. It is a when only experienced hikers choose to visit.
Winter is a season on extreme weather on Monadnock. There is something special about the landscape and the howling wind circling around me as I hike.
I shy away from Mt. Washington and the higher mountains in winter, but not Monadnock. I know that I have the ability to climb the Grand Monadnock in 4 hours, and stay safe. Once you understand a mountain in the spring, summer and fall, it is easy to understand it in the winter. After 90 hikes on this most climbed mountain in North America, I can say that I understand Monadnock. Winter is a beautiful time to hike.
