The snow has melted, the frost is gone, the temps are in the 40's....

Sunday, December 16, 2012

And it's a nice Sunday afternoon.

It can only mean one thing - it's time for an end of season bike ride!

When I got up this morning, I really didn't know if I was going to do this. I mean there was frost on the ground, and I was feeling a little sore from spending 45 minutes on the trainer yesterday.

Still, I was thinking that maybe a bike ride might be in the works. So after church, I drove down to the river to check on the condition of the bike paths. With the exception of a couple of small puddles, the paths were free of snow, ice, and were dry for the most part. Things were looking promising.

But about 12:30, I got a real bad case of the Sunday afternoon 'sleepies' (happens when you are my age). Not to be deterred, I figured a quick 40 minute nap followed by a cup of coffee and I would be good to go.

At 2:30 pm, my step son comes over to try and recover the data on one of my hard drives - we quickly determine that this will require some professional assistance, and he is on his way. It's now 2:50 pm - and I'm starting to wonder if I will be able to get out. But he is on his way, and I finish my last minute checks and prep - voila! I'm out the door by 3:00 pm.

It turned out to be a GREAT day to ride! Temps in the mid 40's, wind is almost calm on the river, and while there is some haze, it's actually a pretty sunny day. A GREAT day for the 16th of December. So I went out for a 80 minute, 16 mile ride up and down the Han river, returning home right at sunset (which these days is about 4:40 pm).

I topped the day off by attending our local Christmas concert at one of the chapels on post, and finished the day with a hot cocoa at Starbucks.

What a great day! Onward!

Sometimes so many things come up to try to deter us but when we get out there and do it we feel so much better and so happy we did it! Sounds like altogether it was a great day!

That would be nice. Expecting our first snow fall (of shove-able proportions anyway) tonight. 10cm (4 inches) expected. I actually hope it goes further below freezing so it's at least powder snow. That wet mush is hard on the back - great shoulder exercise, . . just hard on the back.
