I started yesterday with my status saying "looking forward to no scheduled exercise on Wednesday". NO kettlebells and not games to referee. So I took the dogs for a nice long 40 minute walk figuring that would be my exercise for the day. Then.., I got an e-mail, would I fill in as goalie in what turned out to be a game at 8:30 at the outdoor rink in Elmhurst. Not my favorite rink. Poorly lit, cold and poor dressing rooms. But, what the heck I have been on the ice twice in 6 years I am a Spark person I can do it. Then I check the available games on the ref assignment web site. There is a mens A league game open at 10:30pm at a rink I can make after my game is done. Sure, I need the $45 I can do it after all I am a fit Spark person.
I am also crazy.
Fortunately the game turned out to be an easy one. My team dominated and I had few shots. (They did score on their first shot for their only goal of the game.) I did discover how badly my skills have eroded. The mens league game was harder. Two fast skating teams. My HR monitor said I burned 440 calories in 70 minutes.
It is great to be fit. After 2 hours of unexpected exercise I was tired, but not destroyed and actually feel pretty good this morning. Kettlebells is still on.
