My Dog and Her Fight With the Bathroom

Thursday, December 13, 2012

I volunteered yesterday from 12:30-3 and had a therapy appointment at 3:30. Whenever I leave the house, I shut the bathroom door because the dog likes to grab the towels and roll in them in the living room. I stopped back home in between to let the dog out. She was at the door happily greeting me. But...I heard a noise and went upstaires to investigate.

What I heard was the bathtub water running. The towel rack was down and cracked to pieces. The shampoo that was on the towel rack was in the tub making lots of bubbles. The bottle had emptied out. The shower curtain liner was ripped and on the floor. Underneath the liner was my chewed tubs of nail polish and make up - the contents all over the floor. The towels were on the floor and in the tub. The molding and the door were scratched and the door knob had teeth marks on them. I had a big mess. I grabbed what I could and quickly went to my therapy appointment.

Upon my return, I took a better look at the bathroom. Near as I can figure, Sadie got the door open, went in to get the towels and had the door shut behind her. She must have panicked and did her best to get the door back open. I'm not sure how she got the door open either time.

I am grateful that it wasn't worse than it was. The tub could have overflowed. The dog could have hurt herself. I needed to buy a new liner and some new totes for my nail polish and make up. I needed to do these things anyway. This weekend, we will replace the door knob and the towel holder and the molding. A latch will be added to prevent this from happening again. There's more molding that we have to replace anyway. The cat decided she likes to use the molding on the laundry room door as a scratching post. Meanwhile, I have a good tale to tell.

Poor Sadie I'm glad that she was not hurt as well ad did the best she could to get out of the bathroom, what a mess you had to clean up. My dog shadow has this thing for towels as well.

I don't think I have had an experience as damaging as you did, but i have had my issues with numerous dogs of the years. Sounds like Sadie suffers anxiety when she is ;left alone. maybe she should go to the therapists. Smile!!.
the changes you are making so she can't get in again, will be good. i doubt she has ever been crated, not that at this late time it would work. But she need to have some thing to occupy her. have you tried giving her old bath towels to curl up with. She might be looking for something with your scent on them.
Hope the changes work, and glad you are not punishing her for her misgivings.
take care,
