Resilience thy name is dog!

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

So... Cooper was attacked last night, but he is fine. The vet said his tail is just bruised. It could have been MUCH worse. So, what did Cooper and I do today when we weren't at the vet?

We Walked!

15.2 miles to be exact. I even took him to Lake Erie and walked him on the beach. He loved that, even getting his paws in the lake despite the chill. He had fun racing around in the sand. I stand in one spot and spin around while he races in circles around me as fast as he can go. We must look pretty funny! Now he is a tired pup, and is sleeping in my lap.

I was definitely more traumatized by the attack than he was. He was his normal, peppy self today. I could really take a page from his book. Instead of worrying and brooding over the past and things I can't change, I could be enjoying the sunshine and friendly company. Instead of fearing pain or discomfort, I could boldly sally forth and face each day anew. Whew! There is a lot this little dog can teach me.

Even more good news today... I weighed myself today and I was at 175.4 pounds. That means I am 2.4 pounds from reaching a healthy BMI. That is not very much. I have now lost 144.6 pounds. Woohoo!!! I have gone from morbidly obese to barely overweight. Maybe by New Year's I will be within spitting distance of "normal" weight for my height. I think I can pull it off!!

My dog - who is also my walking compainion - has developed arthritis. He is only 7! The vet said he can still walk but no more frisbee. I feel bad for him, but we will keep walking!

Good to hear Cooper is okay. We "parents" take these things much harder than our furkids do. They have already moved on 2 seconds after something happens.

So glad for your weight loss. I am stuck in a rut and gaining.....

Ahhh....a fellow dog lover! Aren't dogs the BEST!?!?! Your little Cooper is fantastic. I always walk with my dog Jetta aka Jetty Jet Jet aka Sis. I have loved dogs all of my life and honestly don't think I could live without one.

A HUGE congrats on your weight loss & return to good health. As for your ending question ~ there is absolutely NO doubt that you WILL pull it off. You're awesome and unstoppable. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I thought Cooper would be ok. Dogs tend to bounce back quickly.
