All My Neighbors are Frying Chicken

You would think that in a place like Belize it would be quite easy to eat well, huh? I mean it never gets cold and there are fruit trees galore. We in fact have banana trees,a soursop tree, avacado bush, papaya trees and a mango tree in our yard. Fact is, only the bananas are bearing right now, the mangos are coming on but I'll probably be back in the States before they ripen. We also have a huge farmer's market in town where I go not daily but almost so, for fresh veggies. I just love it. No car so, I have to walk to buy the food and then home. It is truly a win-win for me.
The problem is, wanting to be as eco-friendly as I can be, I don't have a/c except for the bedroom and then only use it when it just feel like I may melt. So the windows are open all the time. My neighbors, on both sides, do much of their cooking outside, and it really does make sense to keep as much of that heat outside as possible. Today, they are both making fried chicken. OMG, the smell alone is going to cause me to go crazy. The chicken here is wonderful. There are no added chemicals of any kind and even the dark meat looks white. The taste is nothing like back home. Everyone eats chicken, every day. I do my best to continue to prepare mine in a healthy way, but have Mercy Sweet Jesus, when I smell that fried chicken I want to just dive in head first.
I think my big salad for lunch may seem like a let down. Good thing I don't keep junk around or I'd be tempted to eat the house down, LOL. Maybe I should get DH to lock the gate to keep me from going next door begging for chicken.
Can you gain weight by smelling fried chicken? It really does smell that good.
Pray for me!!!!!
