Last weekend's hike destination was Mecca Hills and Painted Canyon. Location about 100 miles east of Los Angeles in the Colorado Desert, just north of the Salton Sea.
"...narrow steep-walled canyons winding and creating a natural maze within the badlands. Uniquely faulted and folded geologic formations are the result of the San Andreas Fault, making the Mecca Hills one of the more unusual geological sites of this kind."
The beginning of this hike leads through very narrow canyons
Up and down some crazy ladders
Out of the wash with beautiful desert views
The Salton Sea in the distance
Back down into the wash through Painted Canyon.
Past a smoke tree
How small we are!
In all honesty, while the scenery was amazing, some of the ladder climbing and rock scrambling was a bit too dicey. I'm a little chicken sh!t when it comes to heights.
