Speaking of sizes...

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Before I begin, let me just say that I love all of the Moving Comfort products I have used and would be happy finding a gift certificate in my stocking. I'm not picking on the company, per se, so much as adding to the dialog of clothing sizes for women.

A few years ago I ran religiously, and was 3-4 sizes and 40 lb smaller than I am now. I bought (ordered actually, they didn't have bigger sizes) a REAL running bra from my local running store. It was a bit snug, but I wore it and it was great for motion control.

So I was wondering the other day, how long before I can wear it again?? My ribcage is 40 inches around, and the tag says 38...but then I remembered how tight it was when I was much smaller. My tape measure was handily located on my dresser so I grabbed it and measured the band and

WHAT??? The size 38DD has a 32 inch band?? How can that be right?!?!
So, needless to say, I'm a bit flabbergasted and won't be wearing that bra for a while. I guess I'll get a new, bigger one (more ordering) and have that bra to look forward to.
To offset what may be seen as negative, I would like to say that it is a Maia model and it was lovely and comfortable. When it fit.

I was reading an article about several clothing makers who have tried to get companies across the board to implement a standard sizing system (or regulations that would force them to!). So far it hasn't gone through but there is movement in that direction again in the industry. I'm hoping someday they do!!

Bands in sports bras are often much smaller than teh measurement because of the design and elasticity of the entire bra.
Like everything, your mileage may vary.

Wow!!! I just ordered and received today two new athletic bras. I wear a larger size so it's VERY difficult to find good high impact bras in my size. Moving Comfort doesn't seem to accommodate the plus-sized woman who's interested in working out!

Mine are snug, but I think they'll be perfect. I'm definitely going to measure the band tonight ... now you've got me wondering!!!!
