My First 5K and Other Things

On Saturday, I ran in my first 5K race, the Santa Shuffle. I definitely didn't come in first with a time of 48:32, but I wasn't the last one either. A lot of the people that finished in a similar time to me were either doing running/walking intervals, or started off running and ended up walking. I ran very slowly, but I ran through the whole thing, so I'm happy about that. The race was hard! Part of the problem was that I started off too fast, due to adreniline, and just being surrounded by other who kind of "carry" you with them. But I finished! I'm so happy about that. Especially when I think about where I was a few months ago: 200 pounds, recovering from brain surgery, and definitely not a runner! God is so good!

I ordered another Jillian Michaels DVD: the 30 Day Shred. I've done it for six days in a row now, and it's making a HUGE difference. I can see/feel muscles and toning already! Even on Level 1, I was SORE! I did another one of her kickboxing workouts last night and I love it so much! It's so fun that I found myself smiling during the workout LOL.

On Saturday, I prepared all my meals for the week on the days that I'm working, which is five days worth of meals. I prepared green smoothies, energy balls, fruit, green juice, soup, and kale-sweet potato salad. I originally thought that this would have been enough food per day, but I've cut out a lot of unecessary snack and all the soymilk beverages I was drinking, so I've been hungry all the time. I think the exercise I've been doing is also increasing my hunger. So I've been adding in a few snacks here and there. I'm part of a weight loss contest at work. There's five or six of us and we're just competing to see who loses ten pounds first. The winner gets $10 from each contestant. This had given me a little extra motivation since I've a very competitive person LOL. I weighed a couple days ago, and I was at 160/161 which is great. I got down to 158 during my latest juice fast, so maintaining at 160/161 is good. On my month long fast, I got down to 160 and maintained at 165, so things are going down. Yay :)

    Wow! You have accomplished so much. I started running at age 36 and have been running for 16 years now..no regrets. It's good for body, mind and spirit and a great way to keep weight off. Congratulations and keep it up!
