is it ok to exercise when sick?

i woke up feeling awesome while lying in bed, thinking "i'm gonna hit that gym" before heading to my 1st graders class for some in-class help. when i got out of bed and started moving around, the coughing came on. nasty coughing, green thick crap coughing. i almost opted out of working out but the setup was so perfect as the husband had the day off and could be home with the 3 yr old. "ok i'll take it easy and if i feel bad, i'll cut my workout short" i thought. when i got there, i was actually feeling ok. can the gym have magic healing powers, or what? well, 30 min of elliptical and 25 of stair stepping later, i walked out feeling like a million bucks. well...not exactally, but pretty awesome. this should be ok if our body lets us tolerate it, right? now onto the next part of my day, working 3pm to midnight. silly me didn't take a nap as i had coffee when i got home from the 1st grader's school and couldn't rest. guess if i'm truly sick, my body will have to try harder to prove it to me:)
