My third 5K - details & a new PR!!!

Sunday, December 09, 2012

Saturday morning came way too fast for me. It was 7am, and I didn't want to get out of bed. It was still dark outside when I woke up, and it felt like I didn't get enough sleep. For a second, I even felt like missing the race. Something made me get up & get ready! I put ribbon in my hair to try to dress up a bit. They gave us bells at the race, so I put one on each first. I listened to my music this time. The only time I heard the bells was in between songs!

It was a bit misty for most of the race, but at least it didn't rain. My hands were a little cold, but at least my feet weren't. Christmas is coming up soon, but I think I may ask for a workout jacket/long sleeve shirt. I wore a regular sweatshirt over my workout shirt, and I had to roll up the sleeves towards the end of the race. A few times I felt like I was going to slip and fall because of how wet the ground was. There were some leaves in the park part of the race & that was super slippery! We raced around the school once, and then ran through the park. I saw two squirrels and the creek! I can't wait for the warmer weather again. This 5K reminded me of how much I miss the park!

Even though I was nervous and excited for my 5K, I still forced myself to do it. It was my third one, and I knew I would get through it. It actually seemed like this was my easiest run so far. I jogged a lot more than I normally do during my training. My race time was 36:11 but my chip time was 36:04. New PR!!! I was a bit further back from the starting mat/line so it took me a few seconds to cross it! My first 5K was 37:37, the second was 36:36 and now 36:04!!! I was # 250/317 of the timed racers. There were a lot of other people who were walking that didn't have bibs. I feel very proud of myself! I just need to keep up my training.

I need to figure out my next 5K race. I did a search the other day, but there aren't any close by. There are a few in Philadelphia, but I don't know if I want to go that far by myself. Hopefully a few more pop up soon! I will probably do my own around the neighborhood, but I still like the whole atmosphere of the race.

My legs are sore today, but it was definitely worth it! Besides the 5K, I had a fun weekend. I played the game Risk, and I won! I took my normal 5K after-race photo!!! I also took a picture of the lovely flowers which are on my work desk. I am getting more into the Christmas spirit every day.

My two challenges start soon - tomorrow & Wednesday!! I hope everyone has a great week!
